Hello sir
I installed XP on C drive and Windows98 later on D
then I used XP cd and given FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands to
create boot loader.I got it but I could boot only XP when I tried
windows98 (default one) I got error message as follows
Microsoft WIndows XP Professionla
Microsoft Windows98 (Default selection)
my bootloader looks like above
now error as follows
I/O Error accessing bootsector file
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\BOOTSELECT.DOS
I request please inform how to solve this by editing boot.ini file from XP
which OS I can boot.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but you would do much better to install 98 on a virtual machine inside xp.

If you want both on your system, it sounds like you need to repair BOOTSECT.DOS.

Did you have a tutorial you were using?

I have to ask why you are using win98 as it is completely outdated.

Get grub4dos and install it as your bootloader, the default configuration includes entries to run win 98 xp and vista&upwards, much easier than trying to figure out how to chainload win98 through the xp loader.

you should install win 98 first, then windows xp on the second partition. then xp boot loader will add entry for 98. the way you did is not going to work, as windows 98 bootloader can't boot xp.
