Hello,

I've purchased a couple of IDE adapters but can't get either to work. I had one years ago that worked fine but I'm wondering if that had to do with the IDE controller in my PC or the adapter.

The two I purchased had all the pins - no center pin missing so I had to remove the pin - my first indication their might be a problem. I tried removing the top pin on one and the bottom pin on the other - neither solution worked.

The IDE controller on my PC is an Intel 82801eb (ultra ata).

Are you sure you connected the power correctly? Can you provide a link for to the product you bought?

is it slave to another drive or by itself ? default is master. Can you hear it power up when you have it plugged in ?

I appreciate you two trying to help. It is at the end of an IDE cable - no other drives installed. I cannot feel any vibrations so it doesn't seem like it is even powering up. I've tried reversing hte power cable.

The IDE cable works fine on my regular IDE hard drives (not laptop drives) The power unit I plug the adapters connector into works fine for regular IDE hard drives.

Has anyone bought an adapter here that works - if so what model? Did it require you to remove any pins?

Thanks

This one works - have used it a few years. Very simple - you can see the missing pin on the obverse. There is only one way to mount it - - leave the two pins on the drive's left open. Power comes viua the attached molex.

There are no useful markings, but it looks exactly like this one:

And the $6.99 price was about what I paid.

THanks - that one looks like it has all the pins. Is it odd that my cables plugs are missing a pin hole in the middle? I'm curious why so many of these adapters have all the pins.

No, if you look at the back side, you will see a missing pin. It is near the middle. This equates to the blocked hole on an IDE 40 pin adapter. This is how I use it - I place it in a mobile rack tray and just shove it in the rack. That lets me change 2.5 drives, etc., w/o opening up the computer.

Im suspecting that a recent "batch" of these IDE adapters are defective.

I bought two about 1 month ago from Newegg, the exact kind, and neither worked. Figuring I messed it up myself I went ahead and referred a friend to Newegg for these adapters, but the ones he ordered did not work either, at all.

Now I see yours dont work.

Im wondering if an entire batch of these adapters have been shipped defective...

The side that connects to the 2.5 drive do not a missing pin, butthe side that connects to the IDE ribbon do - and that enables you to correctly align them. This is what it must have:

Pin

But - there arfe two ways to skin the cat. The pins on a 2.5 drive are missing one. Therefore, if the female block cobtains a key blank, then the rest of the pins don't matter, except that most IDE connectors have a key block.

Thanks - I see the pin missing on the one you are showing yet in the picture of the web site where they sell them I'm pretty sure the pin is there.

Hi Boe, The missing pin was someones bright idea about fixing it so you couldn't plug the cable in wrong. The corresposding pin connection in the cable connector was plugged. It was in the bottom row of the drive connector almost dead center. If I remember correctly it is pin 20. Some cables have it plugged. Some don't.
Hope this clears up that mystery, Jim

I was working at the desk of someone no longer with the company who happened to have one very similar to the one pictured - "great quality PN 2066996" I tried it out and it worked!!

THanks - I really appreciat the input from people here just a different lable - I'm willing to bet it is the same part as the one shown so I feel confident ordering either.

Thanks
