I have had this system since this past summer, I am not an OCer really, so benchmarks are something I never really cared about. This is only the second attempt I have made at running 3dmark05, but the same thing happened both times. I only get about 30 seconds in, to where the guy with the super machine gun thing kills all the guys, then my FPS drop from like 15 to 0, and the test run stops like 15 seconds later. Why is that? Whats wrong?

My rig:
AMD athlon64 3000+
Epox 745 8kda3j motherboeard
1 Gig mushkin special 2-2-2 ***(I have a question about this)
ATI 9800 pro (shows up as XT but i never OCed it, gets like 375/325 i think)
Seagate 160gb SATA
Chaintech av-710 (shoud sound play during test run?)
XP home SP2
I use the latest Catalyst drivers

****Notes: 1) I have my RAM sticks in slots 1 and 3, is that the right thing for me to do? B/c 3dmark says I have 1.0 Gigs of memory, but then in the details list slot 1 as 512 mem, slot 2 as 0 mem, and does not list a slot 3!
2) No sound is played during 3dmark05, should there be?
3)Do those numbers look right for my video card?

THANK YOU - Greg

no, sound doesnt play during the tests.

you might have changed the bios (or someone did) on your card...check that

install the ram in slots 1 and 2 and try it

Well I put my RAM in slots 1 and 2, but it didnt help.

My video card should be fine, it is and MSI brand from Newegg, retail.

*** After the test failed, it said it failed because "Out of video memory" ***

What should I do?

Try to uninstall your video card drivers and download Omega Drivers and install them and run it again. Is you ram a dual channel ram if yes then you should read your motherboard instructions and see how you can put dual channel ram in your motherboard. Yeah there will be no sound during test.

um... skt 754 are all single channel... so he can't run dual channel...

try with 1 stick of memory and also try memtest86 with each individual stick

I tried new Omega drivers, and older 4.12 catalyst drivers, neither helped.
My mobo has the latest bios.
My mem, is fine, I know its not Dual channel, so slot 1 and 3 or 1 and 2 shouldnt make a difference. Both memory sticks are fine.

Does anyone else think they can help me at all?

What could the fact that it says an error occured because it ran out of video memory mean?

Well I ran 3DMark03 and got a score of like 5500, I dont know if that is good or not.
I have stock cooling on my card, but have pretty good over all air flow in the case, though have never been able to OC the cardanything above stock really. I thought I was just doing it wrong maybe.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: Sorry sorry, I meant '03. I still cant finish a run of '05. Got any ideas?

Check AGP Aperture setting BIOS. Possibly too low? Set it to 128 maybe.

Fern

EDIT: Other thoughts... (1) does it play games fine?. (2) maybe you have a bad install of 3mark05.

Yes, AGP Aperture is set to 128

Games have always seemed a bit too slow \ underpowered.

I have latest install of 3dmark05

:(

OK.
Download and install 3DMark03 and see what you get from it.
Something doesn't make sense. The score you are getting is too high for your card!

To be sure, measure the 12V voltage on an unused Molex connector with a Volt meter while running prime95 and make sure that it does not drop more than 5%.

Run memtest overnight and make sure that there are no errors the next day.

Run prime95 overnight and make sure that it is still running the next day.

If you get to this point and everything passed, run ATItool and click on "Scan for Artifacts" and let it run for half an hour and make sure that it does not crash.
