I'm just about to go pickup a new power supply and need to know if I can get away with the 300watt enermax

p4 1.6a going to be overclocked past 2.4
volcano 7+
asus p4b266-c
256mb samsung pc2700
msi geforce 4 ti4200
30 gb 7200 hard drive
cdrw
dvd drive
soundblaster live
network card

just to give an idea of what would be running..possibly a couple extra fans.

That 365 PS is actually a 350watt PS. If the price is not that much more, I guess go for the 465. But the 365 should be more than plenty for your system.

Do you figure it would be able to handle a 1.7vcore on the p4 and the 4200 overclocked? I've been busting my brain over the power supply, I just don't want to buy one and find out it's not enough power.

I know the power supply questions have been beaten to death here but I keep seeing mixed results, I can also pickup the antec pp303x power supply for the same price..would that be a good decision or would the enermax be better?

enermax and antec are made by the same company.
You don't need a large power supply. Major OEMs ship their 2.53P4 rigs with 250watt power supplies and they're fine. There's a lot of myth about what power supplies people really need and it's just sad. If you don't know how to figure out how much power you will need for each rail of your system I would suggest reading this guide

I bought a enermax chassis a while back with a 300W PSU thinking it would be "enuf" for my 1GHZ tbird and my SHuttle Ak31A.........after assembly system wouldn't boot........I tried a generic 300W psu from my bros comp and it worked. Thought it was a DOA psu but tried the PSU on an old slot A 800MHZ machine and it booted fine with the PSU. Man that PSU sucked..........now using Antec 350W.

RUle of thumb: Quality is more important than quantity.
