I just got a new asus p3v4x and a celeron 600 and I can't get the board to get past the POST. after power on, I get a beeping diagnostic code from the speaker that isn't listed in the asus manual (award BIOS beep codes). the best I can describe it is as a high beep, followed by a low beep, and it's an endless loop. actually, it sounds just like a european police siren.

this happens with the CPU, RAM and graphic card all installed on the mb; if I remove everything and boot nothing happens at all, if I install just the CPU I get the same beeping pattern.

I've tried all the dipswitch settings I can imagine, including trying to run the thing as a Celeron 400, but no luck. I'm using the asus slotket at 1.5v.

any ideas??

unfortunately I don't have any other CPUs on hand to test with this mb.

thanks..

I don't think it's your CPU. If there's no CPU, the system doesn't have any alarms at all. It sounds like a Video problem. Try reseating the video card or try another if you have one handy.

right... maybe I should be a little clearer:

w/ nothing on the mb: no beeps
w/ just cpu: strange beeping pattern
w/ cpu, ram, graphics card: strange beeping pattern

I have heard the VIA chipsets and the Celerons are not a good mix. Don't know how true that is though.

The P3VX4 boards have no problems running Celerons.

Try reseating the video card...best thing to do is try another video card and processor if you can find one...turn off any warnings (hi temp, hi voltage, etc) in the bios to see if thats what's causing it. Good luck.
