Ok, I just recieved an abit kr7a 133 raid, and it won't display anything on the screen, i have tried multiple video cards, switched my ram around, tried different processors in it... the fans and leds start up just fine, but thats it... nothing else happens, the keyboard flashes on and off. Let me also say that iam a complete newbie, this is the first computer i have built. Any info you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated, and anyone who gives me the information that leads to this thing working is my new hero :)

Let me tell you the specs:

Abit KR7A - Raid
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Corsair pc 2400 ddr
I have tried all the other parts on my friends computer and they work fine
Tried many video cards from geforce to voodoo
Tried other socket A processors

Is this thing just dead, or am i just stupid... iam guessing its the later of the two

Thanks!

Sounds like a short to to your case.

Heres what i would do:

Hint: before taking anything off or putting anything on make sure you have discharge the static from you, touching the case chasis, or a static band will work, make sure that the power is turned off and will not turn on with a simple bump of the power button or some cases keyboard.

First disconnect everything from your mobo except video card, 1 stick ram, cpu, hsf, and the power bnt switch, and power to your mobo. Power it up and see if it boots, if it does then it isn't a short or anything on the board.

If not then
1) with everything hooked up as is, find out how to reset your cmos, might be a jumper.

2) Take your mobo out of your case, put it on a non conductive box,(mobo box usually works) and hook up all the stuff above and cut it on. If this works then you have either to many studs on your case or something somewhere is shorting your mobo to your case.

If none of this works then it might be a bad mobo.

Try clearing the CMOS setup. I had a Motherboard that wouldn't display anything till I did that... After that, it worked fine. There should be jumpers on the board that allow you to do it. Refer to your manual, it should be in there.

I think the latest BIOS for that motherboard actually adds support for the 2000+. Its 6N. Go to www.abit-usa.com and download it. Also you may need to clear your CMOS first before you boot up. The motherboard may be detecting the wrong CPU in the softmenu.
