I have formated 3 times tonight! THREE DERN (edited) TIMES.

I left everything default, didn't "update or overclock" anything.

And still:

1. When entering text into a search, login or any blank feild it sticks for about 20-30 seconds (like the forum login here). No matter what. What on this dern (edited) earth could be doing that!?!?!?!?!!? It did it with IE 5.5 and now 5.01

2. Outlook Express takes about 45 seconds to open compared to the like ... 5 it used to. It even locks the system totally sometimes.

3. I can NOT seem to download a good copy of Winzip no matter where I go. I keep getting "Bad header file" or some crap (edited)...

GOD DERNIT (edited) !!!!!!!!!!!

Any ideas? I thought a format would have fixed all these probs. They all just came on lastnight when I looked down and saw my CPU temp to almost 55C. Then BOOM! I got a registery error crash, so I formated...

Now here I am .......:|

or you could have a bum drive, run scandisk/disk doctor and see what you get... I also have had data corruptions with poor quality generice ram...

Well .... After a fomat wouldn't that kill any virus'? I just formatted a FOURTH time and I get the same thing. I run off what the CD installed and Outlook takes forever to load! IE works for about 2 searches and then crashes. I'll type something in, hit TAB for the next box or "Submit" button and it stalls for about 30 seconds.

I have a 20gig main drive and a 10 gig with MP3's, Backup's, web design ... But NOTHING on there is system related.

Could an overheat messed up my drives?

I really am lost here .... :|

Sounds like your ISP may be having DNS server problems, call them. No overclocking usually will not hurt your drives.

If you have access to a utility called traceroute or tracert, then you can use it to see the hops to your ISP, if that works repeatedly then your ISP is usually OK.

Virus's won't usually survive a format, but just in case you can use the command FDISK /MBR after you format to rebuild your master boot record.

So you think my connection has something to do with my browser freezing on entry boxes and SUBMIT buttons? Like here at the forums it freezes after I try to tab down to enter my password.

Very weird ..... But I will check. I have Road Runner cable.

ALSO! I forgot.

When I open Windows Media Player (6.02 cause 7.0 sux)I can play a video for like 20 seconds and then my screen goes black with just a blinking cursor at the top. Another time it crashed and a bunch of green line went across the top.

Could it be the humidity here? I am about to blame the government.

ah, I work in a computer shop and see that from time to time... the infamous "Green Line". What brand of ram are you using? Also, what type of hard drive are you using?

sounds like either a bum nic, nic driver, HDD or ISP related. but i would guess that it would be fixed by now if it were isp related, being that everyone in your node would have called in a complaint. check you nic. try someone elses. do a low level format using maxtors utilities. that woudl tell you if you had a bad drive or something.

good luck

Are you running any Anti Virus software? Sometimes if you reinstall your norton or whatever you have and dont uncheck "scanning everything" it will literally scan everything. Just a thought.

I Had a simular problem sometime back, Not saying its yours also But.
My 3DFX 3000 and my 128meg pc100 dim both went out same time (Spike maybe)
The problem was data was being corupted on the harddrive and stability was out the door, The gfx card seemed to work fine and all ram test programs passed if they were not corrupted on a load.
Changed gfx and still corrupted data. thought the drive was bad, Nope another one shown the same symptoms.
Changed ram then the data was finely stable now I couldnt change screens/multitask.
Changed out 3DFX card and all was fine..
The ram test perfect on 3 different machines though it would cause coruptions and a ram tester passed it, I broke it in half so it would never be used again.
The 3DFX card was warrentied and got it replaced.
But the odds of both going out at once , And on a simple restart, But not compleatly enough to directly track it down, Made me nuts.
Your problem may be multiple problems at once.

BTW. when the ram split in ½ I could sware I heard three bell tones and a whisper "Satin inside" ;)

AHHHH the famous green line. This Is related to your MSI K7T PRO2A. There are a lot of threads about this topic on various forums on AT. A search should give you a lot of good reads. :D

Highly recommended was the Pro 2 and you don't have to spend anymore $$$. IMO a BIOS flash to ver. 2.2 should do the trick. It resolves problems with ATA 100 drives.

BTW I hope you don't have the ATA 33 drive on the same controller with the ATA 100. Wouldn't cause problems but would slow down the ATA 100 to 33.

Well ....

I was finally able to run Norton to scan for virus' and I had got a BAD one a couple days ago it appears. Some W32LoveFest crap. It infected ALL my .exe's and was a memory HOG. So that explains the shotty perfromance.

So I formatted BOTH drives (Since an install file on my storage drive apparently had the virus) and installed Win98SE again. It seems to be okay, but SLOW AS HELL! And I do not know why. I still have a ton of work to get it back how it was, but I think my hardware is okay.

Also, I still have that weird boot problem. When I use the power button it "turns on" but does not boot. All the red lights are on, on my mobo but when I hit reset key, it's all good. Weird?

Thanks for all the help guys.
