Please give me your upgrade opinion on my rig...

I've been gone from the forums for awhile and have lost touch with hardware trends. Of course, visiting the forums have caused "upgrade fever" in me again. Please review my current system and give me your recommends. I'm wondering if it is time to switch back to an AMD 64 processor for what I do:
1. Some video and picture editing.
2. Some gaming; I don't do much in that right now as I find most of the current trend in games rather boring (give me a real fantasy type game like quake 1 again - I'm tired of these online war games, we have enough war right now, thank you). Maybe Doom 3 will re-spark my interest. Currently, I do play some BF 1942.

Here is the rig:
Intel P4 2.4B 2400MHz @ 2520MHz on a IWill P4HT MB, 512 MB of Corsair ddr 2700 mem, ATI 9800 NP video, maxtor 60.0 GB @ 7200 RPMS HD, antec 380w TruePower ps, Supermicro 750a tower case, Logitech 5.1 surround speakers, Hitachi CML174 17 LCD monitor, Creative 6x dvd drive, Creative dvd burner/cdr-rw, Santa Cruz SC, earthlink xDSL @ 512/128, win xp home .

I take it this is not a good time to buy memory... but what about a new MB and processor while I wait for memory prices to go down again? I am aware of the new video cards out and will probably get an ATI x800 pro when their out and the price stabilizes.

Thanks in advance

If it's just the urge to get the latest tech, then go for an Athlon64, 2800, 3000, 3200, 3400 ($170,$210,$270,$400) depending on your budget, and whatever good nvorce3 mobo you like. You can run your memory async, so PC2700 should be okay for a while, but again if you've got the cash then drop $100-$150 on a good single 512 dimm, then upgrade it to 1 gig when prices drop.

But first consider why you're upgrading. If you're like me, you won't upgrade more than once every year or two, so you'll want to make sure you really need one. Do you think your rig can hold out a little longer? I think it really could; it sounds pretty good for what you do with it.

If you're needing a refresh, or if it's getting slow, maybe reinstall windows (if you use windows) to see if it speeds things up? (preferrably on a separate HD first so you don't lose your old config, in case it doesn't speed things up).

That makes good sense.... I guess what I'm trying to do is start moving my components slowly to a more future proof system that is quicker in video rendering time when I burn a home video on to DVD. I want to kind of plan a roadmap for upgrading so that I'm not shelling out a ton of cash all at one time.

Do you think the 380w power supply will eventually push a system with my components, Athlon 64 3200, and a ATI x800 pro? I was not thinking of upgrading the ps if the Antec 380 true power will fill the bill.
