Please give me some reasons to play WOW.....

I have had the beta for a couple days now and started myself an orc warrior. While I really want to like the game, it just seems a little boring to me. Sure, I like the graphics and the system (very user friendly system  ) , but what is there really to do besides level up?

In UO you had a ton more proffesional skills, you could buy stuff like houses and boats, and it just seems like the world was a little more involved. I used to play UO alot back in 99-2000 and had a great time and made some friends, but just gave it up after a while cause I had to.

Maybe because I am only level 7 right now, but the best thing that has happened so far has been swimming to the echo isles and fighting some tigers. Maybe I am wishing people would rp a little more or something.... I dont know. I am looking for a reason to continue the game with a couple of my friend IRL when it comes out, but I cant see a reason to right now.....

I can't answer your question but if you are not going to keep playing I could use your key. I took a 3 day weekend but was to late to get a key🙁 I have read it gets better after lvl 20.

Did you try Everquest 2? You might have a bit more options than WoW when comparing to UO... it's similar in a lot of ways but I find it a bit more realistic in terms of skills and such.

The only real reason why I am getting even remotely back in MMORPG's is cause a have 3 friends who have been raving about how good WOW is, including one of them who I used to play UO with alot. I dont think they want to play EQ2, so if I wanna play with those guys I will have to play WOW. I probably wont even play it nearly as much as I did UO, but I just cant find a reason right to plunge down 50 bucks, plus a monthly fee to play it right now.

Oh btw, how long does the beta last for? If it is until this weekend, then I really got get to playin WOW while its free 🙂

Try playing on a pvp server. If you get bored playing the normal game, you can take up some time participating in raids and such. It adds another aspect to the game that isn't really prevalent on the non-pvp servers.

EQ2 is horrible... not even 1/3rd the game WoW is as a beta product...

if your lookign for the glory days of the original UO sorry it doesnt exist.. no other game company has even come close to the game experience of 1996-2000 UO.. best time of my gaming life period...

as for what makes wow better... in your case play a RP server... and try alliance.. much more depth to the goodie goodie side.. I hate playing horde world seems empty on thier side .. alliance is soo full and teeming with activity.. quests and fun..

Have you played horde since the start of OB? Everyone says that alliance has more content, but I've been running around with 15-18 quests at once since around lvl 10. I haven't tried alliance yet, is it still that much better?

I know it wasn't you CV, but let's all stop bringing up EQ2 vs WoW eh?

On your comment saying Horde is empty...my wife and I are horde, orcs, lvl 18 and we're enjoying it thoroughly ( Yes, you were right ok? 😀)! Horde is hardly empty. The style probably just doesn't suit you "The Barrens" are of course supposed to be barren, but I like how they did it. Right now we both have full quest logs, all yellow, orange and two red. Four elite too!

We've participated in some minor PvP skirmishes, no more than 10 players fighting at one time. Killed 4 night elves a dwarf and a human so far. It's fun-ish, but pointless right now. I'll remain relatively disinterested until battlegrounds and pvp rewards (we're on a pvp server: #23)

Agreed, WoW does not come close to UO though. It hasn't yet for me and I think i've read/played enough now to get a good idea that it's highly unlikely it ever will hold a candle to early UO. It's sad I know. Makes me want to start developing a MMO, been thinking a lot about what made UO great back then. Any programmers here? I can work the network side 🙂

That said i think we'll be buying WoW. Not 100% yet, but i'd say 75%.

EDIT: oh, you wanted reasons. All i can say is that it does improve. And do pvp. And take up a trade skill.

After level 20, the horde is pretty fun. I'm a level 29 Tauren Warrior on test server 19 and it's a blast. 😀

You're exactly right. While I agree that the alliance side is more "teeming", there seems to be more quests available to the horde. As a human warrior, it took me what seemed like forever to get to 10, las I was busy trying to find quests, and lucky to have more than 2 quests going at a time. As an orc shaman and an undead warlock, I flew to 10 because quests were around every turn, and I often had around 10 quests going.

So true. Play on a pvp server, hook up with a guild, and try to take over the server. 🙂

huh? take over how? there is no taking over

glad to hear it Mal hope you and your wife have a blast.
it really is a great game..

as for Horde I dunno i cna do 1-10 in under 3 hours on alliance.. little longer on horde...

Horde to me I just cant get into it... the cities and locations dont do much for me...

on the other hand Stormwind and Ironforge are great I love both towns....

maybe they did add more quests this push.. but before in closed beta it was kinda barren for quests.

Wrong choice of words...

More along the lines of "Become the best pvp clan" on the server.

Bragging rights and what not.

can someone explain to a noob what a pvp is ?
i only played on normal serve and this is the first time in mmorpg.
also what is UO ?

UO is one of the original MMORPGS (I think Merdian was the first). It is basically an angled top-down 3rd person point of view game alot like the other Ultima games. You have a ton of stats, and a large variety in what you can become. I loved my blacksmith/fighter in that game (My bard was really cool too). Looking back however, the graphics are really sub-par by todays standards, but boy was it fun. One of the best parts of the game was just getting stuff, like houses, boats, different colored armor, etc.....

Hunting for a house was killer! Me and my friend actually got one within running distance of vesper, it was so awesome 🙂 As CVSIN said, the best times were from 1996-2000, I played in the circa of 1998 to early 2001.

It was also really fun to go treasure hunting. Get yourself a boat and a couple friends, the sail around and find treasure..... ah the memories.....

They are adding houses in the future and it sounds once battlegrounds come around you can get siege machines for added fun.. 😀

Meridian 59 was the first advertised mmorpg probably the first 3d one. UO was the first really popular MMORPG. Even if you don't include muds there were MMORPGs before these.

Keep in mind that I think WoW will be much better for the casual MMORPG player. That is important to me, because I just don't have the amount of time that I used to to game. WoW has implemented a system where you get XP bonus for "not" playing. You become rested, and basically you get double XP until you reach an unrested state. How long that takes depends on how long you were logged off, and how much you kill. Basically, there is a pointer on your XP bar that lets you know how much rest you have remaining.

I remember spending hours on end playing UO. Hehe... at that time though... a golf ball balanced just right on they keyboard was great for working out on a dummy while you had some dinner... 🙂

Don't expect much in the RP department in WOW. A lot of Bnet Diablo 2 kiddies are going to be playing as well.
