I looking to upgrade my 5 year old Viewsonic CRT (PF790) which has a bit of a flicker. I think I've narrowed the the selection to either the Samsung 213T or Sony MFM-HT95. I'm open to other suggestions. I like the real estate of the Samsung (21.3" vs 19") and the higher resolution (1600x1200 vs 1280x1024), but slightly concerned about the response time (25ms vs 12ms) and the lower contrast (500:1 vs 1000:1) and brightness (250nits vs 450nits). I'm not a hardcore gamer, I'm classify myself as Avid gamer. I play mostly C&C Generals, but enjoy the occasional Half Life 2, UT2004 and NFS U2. I've considered keeping my CRT for gaming, and using the LCD for web browsing and other apps. But if the Sony meets both needs... I was wondering if anyone has thoughts on these monitors. I haven't seen any reviews for the Sony MFM-HT95 (it's pretty new), but the picture looks pretty amazing in CircuitCity and CompUSA. How much trust should I put in the Sony spec numbers? Is 12ms a true measurment or slightly cheated? will I notice the difference in Generals game play? Is 1600x1200 too high for reading text and general web browsing? Is the Glossy screen on the sony a eye strain concern vs the matte finish of the Samsung? Color accuracy between the two? Any thoughts are appreciated. I'm having a tough time choosing one over the other as both displays can be had for ~$800 (maybe cheaper for the Samsung)
