Please give an opinion ABIT TH7-II or ASUS P4T-E

I am building a new system overclocking a P4 1.6A or 1.8A with Rambus. But I can not decide on the motherboard.
What do you guys think? What results have you all gotten...I would like to get to 2.4GHz. Also should I bother with the RAID on the abit...does it make that much of a diffrence?
Please guys, HELP! I can not decide!!!!!
Thanx

I should add that even if you get a board with the older generators you should still get a 533 fsb, you'll just have to keep your memory at 400.

I've got the P4T-E. Excellent typical ASUS quality and stability. Well laid out.

I had the same dilemma and concluded to ASUS. Superb performance, quality and stability. But if u wanna overclock, go for the ABIT. Recently, I discovered with AndyHui 😉 that ASUS might advertise on the box AND in their site about stepless FSB adjustments up to 150Mhz or even 200 (in the German site!!!!!) but the latest bios revision let's u go up to 133 only and in predefined steps :disgust::|
I don't care about overclocking my 1,5Willie but I just can't stand being considered a fool by the Taiwanese...... :|

I would like to overclock..AT LEAST to FSB of 133...
isn't there a way to make the ASUS go faster than 133...with a bios upgrade or dip switches on the board itself?

YES..... Dip switches allow up to 156Mhz FSB setting only by following the combinations written in the P4T manual!!....🙁😕 We all hope for a bios update soon that will let the FSB hit up to 150 jumperfree in stepless increments or not.....

1. Only God and the Taiwnese....😛
2. I 'd rather get an answer from an ABIT owner but in theory I think definitely yes. Especially when thinking of my old ABIT BE-6....!😉

I just ordered an Abit TH7ll Raid and P4 1.8A, etc. last night so wish me luck.
I'll report my results next week.

i have an older p4t-e (sept last year) and a nwood 1.8a. the bios is 1003 and it has all the good o'clocking chips ics etc, however it will not boot and recognize the processor witout a bios flash. you can set the jumper switch to recognize the processor and run it at 2100+ with samsung and corsair ram. i am satisfied with the mobo but would reccomend a later ver with 1005 bios and the good clock generators. if you don't have a local vendor it's the luck of the draw if you online it. asus makes excellent products and the retail has a 3 year warranty.
i am not all that hot on flashing the bios as this board has a non socketed bios chip.

Can anyone confirm whether it is necessary to upgrade/replace the Bios Chip on the ABIT TH7-II when using the Intel P4 1.8a processor? In a previous topic individuals stated that they had to replace the Bios Chip in order for the Intel P4 1.6a processor to work. Apparently according to individuals ABIT is aware of the issue and will send out a new upgraded Bios Chip if you call them.
Anyone who has had ABIT send one out how long did it take?

Also does anyone know of any retailers that have the ASUS P4T533 (i850E) listed for presale or lists an availability date?

The ASUS P4T533 (i850E) seems to have a few more updated features than the ABIT TH7-II, any opinions?

Thanks,
SpdRacer

You do not have to replace the bios chips...
You just need to flash them for tehm to work with a northwood chip.
Now SOME boards will boot up off the bat...If not you can find a non-northwood chip and flash it(try going to your local computer shop)
You can also try some tricks listed at overclockers.com like pulling at everthing you can and trying to boot up...
If none of that works it seems to take about 2 weeks to get the chip..
What I am scared of is not being able to get a board with the new -13 memory chips.....
Any ideas?

I have the 1.6A and a TH7-II. Abit took less than a week to get me my new BIOS chip. I think you'll only have a problem with the 1.6A. I haven't seen anyone with the 1.8A that has had problems flashing their BIOS.

I haven't read much on this board except that it's supposed to come out in Q2. Which could mean that it doesn't really hit full production until the end of summer. And, it's probably going to have more updated features since it's coming out almost a year after the Th7-II did. But if you're going to wait, I'm sure Abit will release an updated version of the TH7-II that will have 533 quad-fsb "natively" supported.
