I agree, they need a secondary luxury brand like acura or lexus.
I know I go against the grain here but Lexus defines premium and luxury to me. I consider Lexus to be superior to Mercedes, BMW, Bentley, Rolls, Aston-Martin, whomever. Why? Their quality and that incredible Japanese obsession with perfection. Their vehicles may be staid but damn are they JEWELS.
if you equate "luxury" with "sh!tloads of electronic gizmos" then yes, lexus would define it. however, it takes more than that, IMO. to say that an LS460(?) or the new LS640(?) would be guaranteed more luxurious than an A8, 7series, or S550(?) is crap, IMO. hell, you can get a fridge in the A8 - can lexus give you that? 😉 audi also has a ~$12,000 interior upgrade option on the A8:Q

Horrible marketing

this is a bit off topic, but as of late, I really hate the British accent. It sounds blatantly cocky, and they can't pronounce worth shiet. Since English originated from Britain, they couldn't even pronounce Jesus right. I mean, who the hell pronounces "yehsoo" as "Gee sus"
They mash up "Nikon," and pronounce it like "Nye kon" instead of its intended "neekon"
Same with Hyundai. Even the southern states of the US make an effort to pronounce it correctly (pronounced more like "hun-dae" than anything else).
Then we have the lame brits who think they can pronounce anything however the hell they want it to pronounce it, and they absolutely butcher "Hyundai" by pronouncing it "Hiiieee-unnn-dae--eeeeee" WTF? It is as if they do it on purpose.
The brits should get off their pompous, cocky arses and get with the world. They're the only european country that still uses the imperial system and drive on the wrong side of the road when they're only a hop away from Europe. Talk about being cocky. sheesh.

Hell has indeed frozen over, and the first U.S-bound rear-drive, V-8-powered Hyundai has slid right across the ice into our world. The Genesis concept-shown first at the 2007 New York International Auto Show-is the precursor to a 2008 production model that has some pretty potent targets (the Mercedes-Benz E-class and the BMW 5-series were called out right in the press release) in its crosshairs.
While some important details like the V-8's 4.6 liter displacement, the six-speed transmission by ZF, and 53/47 front-to-rear weight distribution have been revealed, Hyundai is being a bit shady about some important figures. Horsepower will be "well over 300," pricing will start "well under $30,000," and 0-to-60 mph will be achieved in "well under six seconds." Those claims should be well within reach. The new engine, known at the Tau, is a 32-valve unit that Hyundai claims has been designed with the future in mind. That means the Tau is ready for larger displacements, forced induction, and other technologies.
As you'd expect, Hyundai is unleashing its entire arsenal of technology and gizmos with the Genesis. It will be Hyundai's first U.S. car with adaptive cruise control, push-button start, and high-intensity discharge headlamps. Also available will be heated and cooled seats, navigation, bluetooth, and an Infinity surround sound stereo.
you know if i didnt care so much the stigma of Hyundai = sh*t or = welfare, this actually doesnt sound so bad.

I give them mad props for turning themselves around.
How many damned X5's/X3's are you going to see on a track or even past 3500 rpm? These cars will NOT be driven as they market them. A lot of the people in these cars will be lucky to even see lots of dust on the road, they'll be washed weekly and taken into the dealership for every bit of maintenence.Originally posted by: Tommouse

I just saw both adds the past week and made me sad. Hyundai taking pot shots at BMW/Land Rover. A car's worth is not the sum of its specs, there is more to car than that. That and the fact they didn't mention the BMW or the Rovers strong points. That the Beemer could run laps around the Hyundai on the track, or the Land Rover can actually go off road.
I agree on this, Hyundai is doing something new that should hopefully appeal to more people over time and rather than encouraging it and seeing the benefits, AT'ers along with the general public can only bash it. Look at the overall picture instead of just one car versus another.Originally posted by: MasonLuke
