PLEASE FIRE HYUNDAI'S MARKETING TEAM!!!!

No one, and I mean NO ONE is going to cross-shop a Hyundai Sonata with a BMW 525i!!!

So quit comparing your POS with a German luxury performance sedan!

/Rant!

Oh, and it's not just the 525. They often compare interior space of the Sonata to the 760Li!!! That thing costs over $100K!
Maybe you're confused. They've never compared the Sonata to a 760Li; maybe the Azera.

I cant believe this commercial. How do you compare a luxury vehicle to a college kids beater.

Horrible marketing

I would not call it genius....a little too bold maybe, but not genius

Hell has indeed frozen over, and the first U.S-bound rear-drive, V-8-powered Hyundai has slid right across the ice into our world. The Genesis concept-shown first at the 2007 New York International Auto Show-is the precursor to a 2008 production model that has some pretty potent targets (the Mercedes-Benz E-class and the BMW 5-series were called out right in the press release) in its crosshairs.

While some important details like the V-8's 4.6 liter displacement, the six-speed transmission by ZF, and 53/47 front-to-rear weight distribution have been revealed, Hyundai is being a bit shady about some important figures. Horsepower will be "well over 300," pricing will start "well under $30,000," and 0-to-60 mph will be achieved in "well under six seconds." Those claims should be well within reach. The new engine, known at the Tau, is a 32-valve unit that Hyundai claims has been designed with the future in mind. That means the Tau is ready for larger displacements, forced induction, and other technologies.

As you'd expect, Hyundai is unleashing its entire arsenal of technology and gizmos with the Genesis. It will be Hyundai's first U.S. car with adaptive cruise control, push-button start, and high-intensity discharge headlamps. Also available will be heated and cooled seats, navigation, bluetooth, and an Infinity surround sound stereo.

you know if i didnt care so much the stigma of Hyundai = sh*t or = welfare, this actually doesnt sound so bad.

Hyundai to take on BMW/MBZ?

Not with that nameplate, I'd bet. If this is the case (which it does look like), I predict an upscale offshoot brand to emerge from Hyundai in the future (see Lexus, Acura). Most people wouldn't be able to get over spending $30 - 50k on a brand name that was a complete (sub $10k) joke not 10 years ago.

yes, but because it has such a negative stigma attached to that brand, it would behoove them to REBRAND that label...it's such a ****** ugly name.

Hyundai's quality is on par with Honda and Toyota's as of late, AFAIK.

I give them mad props for turning themselves around.

they may be able to compete with the japanese lux brands... but never the europeans... not anytime soon

just look at how VW got beaten by BMW and MB when they rolled out their ultra lux sedan

I really wouldn't say VW got beaten. The thing with the Phaeton is that it is just an A8 with a VW badge.

FYI, those commercials arn't for people even considerring a BMW. It's for the people who can only afford a Hyundai. They're trying to make it look like the Hyundai is a good buy.

Probably....if they were serious in competing with BMW, MBZ they would charge $60k for it! But then theres no iDrive! I won't look at most asian brands because the styling is HORRIBLE!
