I think that the Zune Marketplace is an even bigger scam. You can't even play those tunes on Windows Media Player, or any PlaysForSure device.

Damn, that is a rip. WTF?

They're trying to create a brand like iTunes. And by having to use a separate program from WMP, Microsoft feels that people won't tie the Zune brand as much to Windows. Either way, DRMed music that locks you into one or two programs and one set of DAP are ridiculous.

because it was $.99 and I didn't think the risk warranted spending hours doing research.

I understood that it was protected music that couldn't be freely copied and given away, but I thought I would at least be able to play it on my home PC. I guess not, it will only play on the PC I bought it from because I don't have iTunes at home. Winamp can play all the m4a files I have ripped, but the track I actually bought will only play on iTunes, interesting.

I think iTunes is largely successful because the general population doesn't upgrade computers very often. In a few years, once people upgrade to new computers and start having problems playing the music they bought, I think there will be a lot more complaints.

why does tfinch2 hate blackrod so much? has blackrod done something to tfinch2?

blackrod thought that the zune could have been a contender, but microsoft has made some strange decisions. blackrod does not understand why they would start a new music drm, brand and store, when they were supporters of playforsure. blackrod feels that the reason the ipod is not that great is the fact that it is locked into itunes. blackrod does not like that. blackrod likes to have different options for buying music and then have the music play on a single player.

Who the hell thinks about deauthorizing before reformatting. That's why it's RETARDED. I've authorized like the same 2 computers like 5 times and yea I can't authorize anymore, so I've given up. I got all my iTunes stuff for free with the Pepsi caps and those random ppl offering free itunes codes. SO maybe my collection was only like 30 songs, but who cares? Freaking annoying. Imagine if I paid for all 30 of those.

I made the same mistake before. I was able to plead with Apple to reset my authorization counter. They made it very clear that doing so was rare and would not be done again.

If I have to reformat I put together a list of things I need to do before burning it to the ground. iTunes is on that list.

i had a similar problem with yahoo. had a computer that was having some major problems with windows (not sure why, nothing new was installed), but because i had just built the box to replace i thought nothing of parting the old box out and selling it. and so one of the 3 computers i could run yahoo on was no longer in existence.

yahoo fixed it by deleting all the computer profiles associated with my account. only took a few emails.
