Over here Verizon is the only carrier that works underground in the metro. I think AT&T now works too, but Verizon has worked for years.

Except when you actually need to ride the metro during rush hour, which seems to begin at 6am and ends at 10pm, there are 1000 other people trying to get the same wireless signal and even Verizon doesn't work.

I was amazed myself to see my Verizon phone work underground in the metro, at first. But I quickly realized that when I actually wanted to use my phone during regular commuting time it was unusable.

Hmm, I haven't tried phone calling in the middle of rush hour on a crowded train, but I can tell you that texting and chat (data) have worked just fine for me.

My Nexus 4 on straight talk (att) got me from michigan to north carolina just fine. Even through the mounatins. I recall loosing signal twice and that's because I was in a tunnel under mountain. Everything else was fine. I even maintained H+ for most of it.
