no its not totally useless but it would have been much better if no country had the vito power and resolutions would pass by majority votes of participating countries and strict measures were taken to enforce all the resolutions passed by UN (not only those that favor the big daddy)

mmm... very interesting. I had no idea that everyone was saying that the security council was worthless because they never explicitly said so.


I'll start a new thread asking:
Why do you think the security council is worthless? and what are the reasons that it is worthless? and maybe even solutions? (meaning reform, not ending it (unless it has a fatal flaw)) I might agree here.

What wars has the UN prevented or stopped? None.
After all these years and all that money why are people still starving?
The UN is an impotent bureaucracy looking for legitimacy, even if it means stealing nations sovereinty.

The UN has had the chance to intervene into a global war yet. Chances are though that it will fall apart before a major war. Take the five permanent members of the Security Council, China, France, Russia, the UK and the United States. All the most likely people to go to war are the founding members, which means that either a) they won't ever got to war, or b) the UN will fall apart and have no possible means to stop a war.

pretty feeble. genocide and all sorts of cr@p goes on and the un is powerless to stop it:p look at africa.

This has turned into a discussion on the Security Council. Please voice your opinion in the thread about the SC and no longer in this one. I'm going to get rid of this one.
