You can do the same from windows 7 as well, you just have to manually create the partition first, when it asks for which drive you want to install it on you would click on the Drive Options button and manually create the partition

If you just select the drive and click next it will automatically create the system partition

Dreaded 200mb recovery partition.... any reason why you are against having single button access to repair tools?

Hello,

I'm about to install Windows 7 on brandnew computer with a 500GB hard drive. I would like to avoid the dreaded 200mb system recovery partition as I will never use bitlocker or the Windows 7 recovery, backup stuff stored on the partition. I was told to avoid this I would need to create my partitions with a Windows Vista DVD and then exit setup after I've partitioned. I've got no experience with Vista and I don't know how you would exit setup safely after you've finished partitioning. I know in Windows XP it's press F3 twice but not sure about Vista as I skipped it and stayed with XP. I was told another way is to create the partitions in Diskpart but I rather not go back to the Windows 98 of doing things.

Worrying about a minuscule detail like a 200M recovery partition is very much the "Windows 98 way of doing things." Your best bet would be to just do the install like normal and move on with your life.

I thought it auto creates the partition no matter what you do at least that's what I've seen in almost all the tutorials of installing Windows 7.

I use Clonezilla to do full backups and I know people love Windows 7 but I don't care for all the useless bloated features and people helpers aero, auto defrag, annoying new task bar things I will disable right away. If I run into issues I won't bother with trying to repair. I would just load one my backup images.

Your entitle to your opinion but I consider the 200mb useless bloat and don't wish have it there.

If you hate Win7 so much and think so much of it is bloat, then stop using it. But either way, the 200M partition isn't doing any harm and isn't a significant percentage of your disk space even with an anemic SSD.

Apparently you also consider proper grammar and punctuation useless bloat as well...

No idea what your problem is but If you don't like the thread or what I'm asking then don't reply. I'm so insulted 12 year old grammer nazi has insulted me. I'll be sure to report the post to a mod.

I'm sorry, but I just can't resist. You claim that people have attacked you personally here, when all I see are helpful suggestions that you really shouldn't try to eliminate the Windows 7 recovery partition since it is a very useful tool if you ever have a problem with your system.

Nothinman did comment on your grammar and punctuation (which were quite awful, by the way), but that is in no way hostile. Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation are critical skills that far too many young people - and an alarming number of older people - lack.

The most amusing part of your ultra-sensitive overreaction is the fact that you say "members are to hostel here." I assume that you meant to say "members are too hostile here" but let's go with what you actually said, since it really is closer to the truth. A hostel is a place where people can go to stay for a time and socialize with other people for a very small cost. AnandTech is a place where anyone can go to socialize with other people for a very small cost (free) and usually get excellent advice on virtually any technology-related subject. This is in fact EXACTLY what you got when you asked your question and got some very good advice about how to deal with your situation. The only one with any problem here is you...

I dislike that little mini-partition that Windows 7's installer creates.

The easy workaround is, you create your primary partition, Windows 7 creates the mini-partition, you delete your main partition, and then "extend" the mini-partition to the full disk size, and then "format" it, and then install to it.

Viola, one large partition.

This is very helpful, when it comes to installing FDE, btw. Some things really don't work well with that annoying boot partition.

But if you use the FDE that comes with Windows, you need that partition. I have yet to see a tool that has issues with that partition.
