I have heard that in order to play BRDs, you need to have a HDCP compliant video card and monitor. Currently I have nvidia 8800 GTS which I don't think is HDCP compliant. Will this keep me from ripping the disc or just playing the BRD on my computer and viewing it on my monitor?

The HDCP requirement is designed to prevent exactly what you want to do- rip Blu Ray content into a non-approved form. You don't have to worry about HDCP as you won't be playing by the rules of Blu Ray anyway- when the software (Anydvd HD/Makemkv) cracks the disk for you to rip it all the rules go down the drain.
