well, if it helps any, the t1 provider at my building charges a cancellation fee regardless of reason if you cancel b4 your term is up.

That sucks... call the isp and see what can be done. maybe they can get a month free.

Insurance might cover the loss of the router (and maybe even the ISP payment).?.

and you were storing your tape backups offsite, right? :p

if i read your post correctly, you said the contract expires in june. 2 or 3 months.

if the ISP isn't willing to work it out for you, let them know that you won't renew with them.

they'd be fools not to make some kind of exception for you especially with a renewal coming up so soon.

Yeah, and 2-3 months could be a lot less than a cancellation fee so keep that in mind. I'd use that for leverage though. "Our contract is up in 2-3 months and we're willing to renew with you if you can help us out with this and suspend billing for a month or two until we're rebuilt." Contract wise you probably have to pay. It wouldn't be half bad if they only made you pay the loop charge until then I guess.
