Please critique/help me with these computer specs.

A while back I told a friend I could put together a good computer system that would cost less than 2000 dollars in the end. I wasn't quite sure if he would take me up on my offer, but as it turns out he has. Now, I believe I know enough to get the system together and running whatnot. However I'd hate to put together something worse than he could have because I didn't know enough about what was availavle. I have been lurking here, and also reading reviews elsewhere and have come up with what I think would be an ideal system.

Athlon Thunderbird 1.33GHz 266MHz-OEM 108.00 Newegg.com
Epox - 8K7A 120.00 Newegg
ENERMAX EG365P-VE 350W 55.00 Newegg
256meg DDR PC2100 CL2.5 Unbuffered ECC (x2) 95.98 Crucial.com
IBM 60GXP - 60GB 152.00 Newegg
Leadtek Geforce3 64MB DDR TV / DVI out 329.00 Newegg
Hercules Gaming Theater XP 105.00 Newegg
Aopen 12x10x32 CD Rewriter 85.00 Newegg
Pioneer 16X DVD Model 106S 60.00 Newegg
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional OEM 140.00 Newegg
Lian Li PC-60 Case 155.00 Big808.com

I've listed newegg prices mostly, because for one, I trust them based on past experiences, and second they seemed to have most of what I was looking for at acceptable prices. I'm very open to thoughts on the system, because I want to make sure to build the best comp possible for my friend. He was also concerned about future upgradability in relation to processors. While I have read various reviews all night now, I can't seem to find if the 8K7A supports the Palimino core or not. The Gaming Theater XP was the winner of a tossup in my mind between it, and the Santa Cruz. I can't say I'm entirely sure on it though. The last thing I thought I would ask, is about what processor HSF would come most reccomended from OC'ers here. He asked me to look into overclocking and I told him I would. Though overclocking someone elses stuff makes me slightly more nervous than I would be playing with my own stuff. Anyway, that's all I can think I was meaning to ask. Any/all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Noah

I would drop the ECC ram and save $30 bucks.

Also your going to need a fan for that OEM cpu, get a nice one.

140 for oem Win2kpro sounds a bit high to me, shop a bit more.

hey, nice system, kinda like the one im gonna get in a few weeks,

drop the lian li, get an antec sx1030. i have one already, GREAT cooling, sexy looking, easily modded. the aluminum is just too expensive and doesnt cool ure case like u might think it would.

yea, drop the ECC and get the unbuferred, unregistered (also i would get 512 for win2k for the same price)

dont know much about the Aopen cdrw, if you can, definitely get a plextor (more $$)

I have a 106S DVD drive, and I am not a big fan... it is quite loud, and I seem to get better recognition of disc insertion with my tray-loading drive (e.g. autoloading CDs don't always load on the 106S for me).

Yeah, that, and you don't need the ECC

Wart, I just looked into that Antec. And it seems like it would fit what my friend is looking for better than the Lian Li. Thanks! It also comes with a 300W PSU which should work fine with the computer. So I can take the Entermax of the list. I looked around and found c heaper priced Win2K, and also noticed that non-ECC ram only took about 7 dollars of the price of the two 256meg ram dimms. As for the Aopen, I picked it from personal experience and price combined. I have that drive, myself. As for the DVD drive, Winjer, could you or anyone else reccomend a better drive around hopefully the same price? As I asked before. Can anyone suggest a particular cpu fan for my setup. It will probably end up being overclocked. If not by me while I build it, by someone else later. Thanks again.
