Yeah, that's the funny thing. If you spec out a high end Dell XPS or Lenovo Thinkpad T series with the same options, it will come out around the same price.

Just do us a favor and don't become one of those self important douchebags who goes to your local Starbucks to show off your new Macbook Pro and sponge off their WiFi. I've always wanted to spill a Latte on their laps.

Anger issues much?

well i went to bestbuy today and checked out the few macs they had there (an air and a basic MBP). the interface is definitely different, but it was nice that it is unix based and i'm able to use a native bash terminal.

i really wanted to see what the retina display looks like, but they didnt have any retinas there 🙁 might go to an apple store to check it out.

in addition to the mac, i tried out a lenovo yoga 2. now that thing was nice! 13", 1080p touch screen, fully foldable into tablet mode. i really liked that one, and might consider that instead of a mac.

Ah, you were referring to the Coherence view in Parallels vs the Unity view in VMware Fusion.

Correct, I tried both and Parallels is much faster even with just 1GB dedicated.

I only run Visio and IE under Windows really. Everything else I need productivity wise OSX has down.

I run Office for Mac (I was running Office for Windows prior, but the Mac version is just as good and native).

There is one guy that runs his MBP as only a windows box. I am not sure what he did to do it, but it works for him.

We can pick the 15" MBP, the T4x0 or X2x0 as our laptops with the company. Most go with the MBP and then pay their own way for Parallels and other OSX software like SecureCRT that the company will cover for Windows versions.

Go check out a Surface 3 Pro dude, seriously.

It might be up his alley, that's true.

I was strongly considering it for so long, and would be the perfect replacement for my Surface Pro (first gen), but I've been considering the lack of full lapability (still must rest the support stand on your legs as opposed to a self-supporting hinge), the 12" 3:2 display is an improvement but I think I might just want 13.3 or 15.4, and... I think I still actually want OS X.

But the SP3 on Win8.1 and Win 10 will be amazing. I do love my Surface Pro, absolutely, but there are limitations in that form factor that one must truly consider.
If there's a deal breaker, someone should be fully informed and cognizant of their usage requirements.

i was talking with my sister yesterday who can get discounts through the school she works at. she logged into her account and i saw the 15" mbp's that she could get for $1448.

i looked on apple's site today and saw they start at $1999.

if you know someone who can get a edu discount, check that out if you can. i was shocked it was $500 cheaper than the normal price.

Just got my Surface Pro 3 today. Still waiting on the keyboard cover.

Phenomenal device. Love it so far.

Might you know if that has been pretty consistent, or only a recent change?

I wonder if the school might be starting to heavily discount the current gen ahead of a new model line refresh. I have heard schools heavily discounting brand new "old model" laptops when new models are available... That seems steeper than a standard edu discount.

I have limited student discount capability.
