Rofl. This. OP sounds like an idiot. If you want people to pick one without any though to the input then you might as well flip a coin. The reason why you ask people is so that they can provide useful input otherwise what's the use in asking.

And yes, what you're planning to do is relative because ultimately, I would assume, that you're trying to go for the deal that has the most value for you to use on a trade in which is a much different situation than just buying one for driving it. If you can't figure that out then :\

You don't get to choose the end of the Topic just your participation in it. But why come to a forum to ask people a question if you didn't want them to be smart people with real insight.

If you don't want smart opinion's on your question, than you might as well not ask because, I think we can all agree, that the public as a whole is full of stupid people with stupid opinions. Without information to separate the smart opinions from the bad ones, they might as all be junk opinions.

I'm sure there were some repairs done along the way too. With that mileage you would have needed a water pump and thermostat, at least two valve cover gasket changes, at least one new belt, new exhaust, and if used a timing chain- and that's minimum.

I don't think the exhaust has been replaced. Engine is completely original, never been opened up. She did replace the transmission last year though.

In any case, I wouldn't buy either of the cars the OP is looking at. You just never know how well it has been maintained, how many owners it has had, what type of driving, etc. I'm sure my wife's friend's car is worth virtually nothing at this point. GS is a great car but I'd find one with lower mileage or just buy something else completely.
