How Dare you do this to your family, friends, surrounding people. how dare you keep such a filthy habit that it degrades your health, their health, and all of your financial stability?!?! if you truly love those around you, then you'd stop smoking. Why do this to yourself? if not for you, quit for your family. they love you, and want you to be around longer.

My mother is having all sorts of problems (from emphazyma to a couple of strokes) due to smoking. It's a huge burdon on our family now.

There are a ton of overpowering reasons to not smoke. But I can't seem to think of a good one to start/continue smoking.

but it doesnt affect just them. it affects their family, friends, and all who know em. and some who dont, because they smoke around strangers.

You won't get any good replies from this group. Most smokers care about no one but themselves and could care less who else they are killing. Of course, there are always a few who try smoke away from nonsmokers, but they are few and far between.

Agreed -- although it is really a terrible crime when smokers have childern (who have no choice in the matter) and smoke inside - the right thing to do is to take it outside, but, when somemone chooses to smoke it is their choice, not yours, nor the nanny state.

also i didnt mean to come across so harsh before. obviously your mom havin probs is a big deal. But she made teh choice to smoke.

Absolutely. I have a smoke from time to time, but it is when I'm out with friends at a bar that is already filled with smoke, otherwise, I smoke out on my porch at night when no one else is out/awake.

Asking people to quit for reasons other than themselves will not work. Unless you have been addicted to something you can't really understand. The physical addiction of nicotine/cigs is easily broken; it is the mental/psychological addiction that is rough. I tried to quit several times at the urging of friends and failed miserably every time. I'm going to sound a little like Moonie here but the reasons for quitting must come from within, I was only able to successfully quit when I made up my mind to quit for myself and nobody else.
