How pathetic. A person asks a simple question, and the trolling comes flooding in.

It doesn't bother me because I'm having trouble seeing what I can do with the playstation 3 besides the obvious.

only thing I've seen posted and found is putting movies onto the hard drive/linux and ripping blu-ray movies to the hard drive. Though I haven't found any easier tutorials to do it.

I had a hard time finding reasons to buy it few months ago with the 60gb version + 150 credit from sony.

Its only slightly easier this time because of it being 100 bucks cheaper and they threw in Spider-man 3.

Off the top of my head from what hasn't been mentioned:

- Can stream from DLNA servers
- Folding@Home
- Remote Play with a PSP
- DVD upscaling (with HDMI)
- Audio and video chats
- Web browser
- Occasional music video (Australia only so far, IIRC) and music downloads

IPTV and DVR services are supposedly on the way, but it will be a while before it comes to America

Naw if I was a troll, I would have said "DOOD jus git a 360 yo! they SO mcuh battaR! My gamertags is in my SIG!!! Send me FR! YEAH"

It can also be used sort of as an HTPC. Run something like TVersity on your computer and network it with the PS3. Your PS3 should automatically recognize it and you can play any media files that are compatible with the PS3 (mp3, and mp4 avc formats). Or you can spend hours converting all your divx files like I am using PS3 Video9. The end result is awesome though. Instead of watching the latest Heroes ep on my PC monitor I can just watch it on my TV. The Linux feature is cool, I installed Yellow Dog, but I was disappointed when I found out that flash is not compatible with that version yet.
Remote Play is also a plus, if you have a PSP of course. Basically if you run a media server program on your computer you can access all your media files from anywhere you get a wifi signal using the PSP.

And you can play some games through RP.

Except that tversity is buggy as hell and I've yet to be able to finish 1 episode of anything before it crashes out on me.

A new version of TVersity was released recently and solved those problems as far as I know. I havent had any problems since the update, works like a charm.

If you install Linux, you can plug in the xbox 360 drive and rip HD-DVD too. I havent tried it but some ppl have done it.

why would anyone do that when they can already do it on a PC?

i don't know, I'm just throwing it out there. I just watch movies with my ps3. I game on my 360.

Would it be possible to dump images of DVDs onto the ps3 hard drive and have the ps3 mount it and play back?

or is converting tv episodes I have on dvd to ps3video 9 the only way to go?
