playstation 3 controller into playstation 2

can i plug the ps3 controller into the usb port of the ps2 n expect it to work?
i dont have a ps2 to try this out...

The ps2 USB ports to my knowledge never were able to be used for controllers.

Why? If you have the PS2 I'm going to assume you have a controller for it. They aren't much different and the only things that are aren't supported on ps2 games.

my friend has a ps2.
i have a ps3.

he doesnt have an extra controller for me. so i could run out n buy a ps2 controller if i have to. im surprised nobody has tried this.

I'd be very surprised if NOBODY has, but the few people that have read this thread haven't. The fact that nobody knows about it means it doesn't work. Something like that would have to be planned and made it doesn't just HAPPEN to be compatible, and in that case Sony would make sure everybody knows it, and the question wouldn't have been asked in the first place.
