Does anyone know if you really NEED this thing? I have a broadband connection and an Ethernet to USB converter, is there any way to get it to work by just plugging that directly in to the usb port on the PS2?
 
Probably not, since those things usually require drivers in order to operate, and your PS2 isn't going to be able to supply those drivers.
 
Hey all.. well I plugged in my SMC Ethernet->USB adapter, the Playstation 2 recognized it and I just played a game of NCAA 2004. Spending 15 dollars is definitely better than 40 or 50 or whatever that rip off adapter costs.
