Playstation 2 -- Get them while you can....

I don't expect to see many come into the Comp i work at. My friend who works there has 3 pre-ordered other places as well to re-sell to my super-yuppy community. I might snag one when they come into the store if i have the cash and the opportunity.

HEUGE hit it on the nose! This is all a business marketing strategy! They knew about the demand over six months ago, they had enough time to compensate.

I'm betting on an artificial shortage myself. It's basically to make it the hot item for this Christmas. Video Game consoles have been doing this since the day the SNES game out 😛

LETS ALL MAKE MONEY ON THIS!!

www.iderive.com

is GUARANTEEING shipment of the PS2 on 10/28 - you set the price you want to pay, and if they dont have them they PAY US!!! Example, offer $500, and if its not available, they give you $100! If youre willing to pay $1000 for it and they dont have it, u get $500!

The Anandtech effect can virtually GUARANTEE they wont be able to ship - and we cant lose, since you can probably eb@y em for $500 if u do get it, (THEY ARE ON EB@Y RIGHT NOW FROM $450-2000!!!) obviously some of these are deadbeat kid bidders

AND if you use a pricematching Credit Card (like Citi or Amex Blue) you can get the diffrence refunded!! Or use a Webcert and have no worries!!!

LETS GET THIS ONE EVERYBODY!!!!!

Come, now...if they already have a bunch of orders for $300, and someone places an order for $1000, who do you think they are most likely to ship a unit to? 😛

Yeah....PS2 blows since they are doing that bait and switch crap. 1 million units promised, but only half delivered? That's bull.
SEGA is gonna kill them.

I also was browsing the other day and found this company that's working with SEGA Japan to develop an API to put Voice into Dreamcast games!

Now THAT rocks...

I think SONY can learn a few things from SEGA.

BTW...here is the URL of that company... www.innomedia.com

To be or not to be...that is the dilemma...

sega will be #1 for xmas this year. due to the immense number of warez (no mod chip needed) available and the general decent quality of games.

ps2 maybe next year, if its not obsoleted by then!

ps2 will drop to $150 in 6 months. why preorder and waste the money on something that has the same old same old games.

Actually, whn.com sells NO console systems. Just games and accessories for them. Ever since the Dreamcast disaster they had, they have stopped selling consoles.

This is not bait and switch, they are not offering you a playstation2 and selling you a gameboy. I also do not believe it is an artificial shortage, as this shortage will definitly give the Dreamcast the edge and give them bad pr for not living up to their claims to deliver 1 million units.

Heres an idea. How about everyone just relax and just buy only one if you really want one in the first place. No hording, no ripping people off, no taking advantage of others. If they do run out, just wait a few months, there will be plenty to go around.

Everyone is just making random generalizations here or posting their biases, this thread is definitely going nowhere and so far there's no hot deal in here. I don't think you need to create an artificial demand on an item that already has a HUGE demand for it. By the way, it most likely is because of the silicon shortage. Companies like Intel and Micron are taking huge hits in their stock prices because of this shortage(decreasing revenue). So, let's stop rambling and start putting up some real deals in here.

i heard it was because they were having trouble with the dvd lockout according to a site that fgnonline.com mentioned... but i'm more inclined to be reminded of the stunt nintendo pulled with their 64... artificial demand exactamundo(www.ncsx.com--their newspage for today reminded me of this happening)

The last "playstation" I owned was Pong back in the 70's. The last "playstation" I used was a friends Atari 2600.

Does that date me a bit or what?! 🙂

I had read somewhere that the PS2s that were released in Japan brought many complaints about the software decoding performance so the ones to be sold in the States will be a hardware solution. This may be the cause of the delay. Whether this is true or not I don't know. Maybe someone can dig up some dirt on this

How much are the early Jap. import versions going for? These are the ones that can play any region DVD's and no Macrovision. Some of the latter ones can even have the older bios put on them to do this, but the new ones exported from Japan to US had these fixed so you can't.

well the dreamcast sales have gone up like 150% since the PS2 sortage was announced, if it is a marking stratage then its a bad one.

Does anyone know how many titles will be available at launch? It would suck to get a PS2 and only be able to play pong2000.

There are MANY games that will be released the same day the system is. I would say atleast 10 titles will be available immediately.

hope that helps,
marco
