Playstation 2 -- Get them while you can....

The talk around the shop is that Sony is having a problem and won't be releasing near enough of there new game system. There seems to be a delay due to some kind of problem with production on some of there chips. They are projecting that they will be only delivering 1/4 of what was origianlly estimated. Eventually they will catch up but not before the Christmas rush. Now a few people around the shop are planning on hitting the mid-night sales and getting as many as possible. Most stores have already issued statements that there will be a one game system limit per person. We are getting together around here and are going to buy what ever we can and resell them at a reasonable mark up.

The reason I post this is this forum is that if you were to do the same you could pay for your own system in no time. I also write in here to see if anyone else has heard anything simular to this.

Yes it's looking pretty scary come Xmas..... I have recently been told by everyone not to even expect the order I placed on Aug 28th!!!

They originally claimed to be shipping 1 million, but now they say they can only get half of that out to stores because of prodcution shortages. They are even delaying PS2 launch in Europe to fill demand in America.

By the way, this is kinda old news. Guy at Electronics Boutique said dont expect to get one until January

Yes, the DreamCast sales have already been rising like crazy due to PS2 shortages. Hopefully, now that DreamCast will have sold an extra few hundred thousand units, Sega will keep Sony competition until GameCube comes out next fall and then Nintendo will rule and everyone will play Mario again, like in the good old days!!!!!! 🙂

some resellers didnt accept preorders so if you want one, i would think that that is your best bet. i too orderd one 2 months ago, but i will not get till about a month or two after lanch. i will try to get one from some place that didnt accept preorders, but i am not getting my hopes up. bottom line, if you havent already orderd one, dont expect to get it untill after x-mas..

::cough::Hot Deal forum only::un-cough::

I know, I know, I made a few mistakes, but can you blame me? 😀

I put this in the Hot Deals forum due to the fact that if you could resell the 3 extra at a 100 a pop you would get your for free. That's a Hot Deal.

I am seeing if there will be a demand for them where this would be possible.

Stores will probably have a 1 PS2 per customer limit. I don't see why anyone would want a PS2 though. I'm mainly a PC gamer and occasionally I use my Dreamcast. The N64 and PSX have been relegated to the basement ;-)

Sony is going to horde these puppies until just before Christmas and then they'll look like heros! Nintendo pulled the same stunt with the N64, I was working part time at Toys R Us and I remember the chaos!

Seems like yo're right about shortage of PS2's. Got this note from Outpost today where I had placed a PS2 order on July 29:

"Thank you for pre-ordering your Sony Playstation 2 at Outpost.com.

As you may already know, the overwhelming demand for Sony's next-generation video game console will mean extremely limited supply at the time of launch.

Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee a delivery date for your order at this time.

We will continue to work closely with Sony and our suppliers to secure as many units as possible, and hope to fulfill your order soon after the current official launch date of October 26, 2000.

As posted on our website, we must enforce a strict one-per-customer policy regarding orders for the PS2. If you have placed more than one order for the PS2, only your first order will remain active. All subsequent orders will be cancelled.

We appreciate your patience and understanding and assure you that we will do everything in our power to get your PS2 to you as soon as we can. If you are interested, we have several other video game consoles that are available with FREE DELIVERY. OVERNIGHT.*"

If you did not preorder the PS2 do not even expect to get one!!!! Stores like target, TRU, and walmart are only getting around 2-3 per store and there will be a serious catfight for those babies. I preordered this damn system about 6 months ago, and I barely made the cut!!!! Software Etc. in my town for example is only getting 150 PS2 units when they have 210 preorders scheduled, so you probably won't be seeing these guys until February..... at least that is what I've heard.

Maybe I'll try to get one and e-bay that fscker around December 1.

Should be lots of mommies and daddies lookin for em!

Restating the obvious, stores that sold pre-orders will fill them as shipping permits and stores that didn't sell preorders, or stores with more than the amount preordered will be selling one per customer, ALTHOUGH I BET ANY NOT PRESOLD WILL BE TAKEN BY EMPLOYEES. I work at a retail store selling PS2, and I'm grabbing one(or as many I can get my hands on) before they go out on the shelves and every other employee I've talked to is doing the same. Company regulations require that we put a certain amount on the shelves, but that doesn't mean we can't be the first to grab them off the shelves. I rarely play videogames, so mine will be for sale here at a fair price.

Anyone remember the N64 shortage? I remember seeing them sell for over 500 bucks in the local newspaper at that time!

MyBuds, why not just grab them off the shelves for eveyone here that wants them and sell them each for a $20 profit. They can't stop you from grabbing them off the shelves can they? Take pre-orders from people here, make a profit, and make everyone happy!

A similar thread was on fatwallet...it looks like some free cash from iderive.com if they can't fulfill the orders. I did the $500 for the ps2, and have the chance of getting $100 if they don't get out the orders...what do you guys think? Could be a hot deal after all.

i hear WHN will be blowing them out the same way they did last year with DC's for $130 and $119 thru collegeclub. look for a price between 230 and 250 on WHN soon!

What's WHN?

I hear the XBox might be a better unit, when's that out?

How long are the lines gonna be at CompUSA on the morning of Oct. 26. No Preorders!

Does anyone besides me and VorlonBlue think this is Sony's way of making consumers buy any PS2 paraphanaia all-day any-day after the launch hits? It would seem to be a sneaky way to do marketing by initially limiting shipments to create huge demand, and then start dumping madly right before Christmas. That means that "everything" would sell immediately. People who might have just a small inkling of buying a system would buy whatever they see. Games... memory cards... controllers... etc... They will create an "Elmo"/"Cabbage Patch" frenzy that will drive sales higher for all parts and accessories.

I actually preordered one in March ($10.00 down at EB), but I am 500 miles away from the EB where I did the preorder. Since I did not even preorder games or controllers, even if I do make back for the launch, there will be nothing left for me to play, except for the truly horrendous games that even desperate people will not buy.

Perhaps the Dreamcast is a good choice, since there are MANY quality games that might be fun to play and a few ones that make me drool. I actually do not see any new PS2 game that causes me to shout, but there are a few post-launch that might be darn good.
