Good. The more of these ridiculous actions that are initiated by the music industry against people and their fair use rights the more likely it is that they will wake up from their stupor and demand an end to it.

Edit: Maybe my neighbors and I should start a class action suit against the RIAA the next time some riced up Civic comes into our cul-de-sac and spews forth their product at ridiculous volume levels. Our rights to not consume their product are being violated. /sarcasm

And it doesn't matter what music you play even your own you must obtain a license

What if the music you play is not from the UK?

PRS is affiliated with similar societies throughout the world; therefore the writers and publishers from countries such as India, China, France and Italy, to name a few, will receive royalties which have been collected by PRS for the performance of their works within the UK. This means that whatever the country of origin of the music you play, a PRS Music Licence is required.

Not sure how they could make a case for sharing by playing music too loud, but I can see how they might spin it as an unauthorized public performance of a copyrighted work.

Wow. Thank god that's in the UK, I mean nothing like that could happen in this country!

The UK already determined that the cabbies need to pay royalties on the music they play even if it's on the radio.

Isn't this more or less already a law though?
A store just can't (legally) be playing XYZ album or radio station over their PA system without paying royalty fees.
Now, somebody actually getting sued on that law, thats a new one I think

Good lord - the next thing you know the NFL will be going after people for "Any other use of this telecast or of any pictures, descriptions, or accounts of the game without the NFL's consent, is prohibited"

Random guy: I just told him what the final score was!
NFL: guilty!

This is getting out of hand

I would make it company policy to play static on the loudspeakers for the customers and then sue the radio stations for cluttering up the airwaves with music.

Somehow I get the feeling any damages they're awarded will be outweighed by negative publicity and public sentiment.

Gotta love their business model. Why put out a good product that people will want to buy when you can try to make money by extorting (court action) against other businesses.

Actually in all seriousness, I won't mind that at all. I get really tired of the constant "thump thump thump" from other apartments/cars. The cops never seem to do anything but I know the RIAA will!!

:p
