i know it was released a while ago, but i really want to get into FF again and I never tried out FF11 again. Is there still a decent amount of people playing? What is the best FFXI game to buy? Thanks in advance

I played it a few years ago on PC, so I don't know what the 360 servers are like now, so i'm just commenting on the game in general.

It was fun for awhile, but too slow-paced for my liking. I probably spent 90% of my time in the game traveling from one play to another, which is just boring if you ask me...

There was an expansion released recently, so there will probably be more people playing for a while.

pretty big following and if you have any version, ps2, 360 and PC versions are cross compatible, so all three groups of gamers play together.

I played it for a little over a year and a half. It was ok but don't plan on soloing past level 10.

It also has the worst death penalty of any MMORPG I ever played. Just imagine going back levels when you die.

Oh, and the ecomony is screwed up from all the chinese auction bots so don't expect to buy anything off the AH.

There is no "360 servers" every server has a mixed pupulation from all across different languages and systems.

The travel is only like that early on. When you get higher up you can teleport, get various outpost warps to allow you to warp right to the zone you want to, and in the new expansion you can travel time through the cavernous maws which are kinda like gateways to the past and future.

The RMT (real money trade) has been almost killed off. Prices are really cheap.

For instance an item called Peacock charm which gives +10 accuracy and +10 ranged accuracy was 30,000,000gil a while back. Now it's less than 2mil.

There are tons of updates every month adding new things to do and the GMs have special task forces to deal with the players who attempt to monopolize items.

Each server is left to determine what prices and what economics are fair. So no 2 servers are exactly the same. It's up to the crafters and various linkshells to set the fair pricing for rare items.

WoW is by far the better game in every way. Unless you know Japanese, then I could see FFXI filling a niche role for you.

Interesting. When I played, it was a good 4 years ago, so there was no 360 version...there wasn't even a PS2 version yet. As for the teleporting and all that, how long did that take? I got my character up to level 20 or so, which obviously isn't very high but still took an obnoxious amount of time.

The storyline of FFXI was way better than WoW's non-existent story.

WoW actually has a good story line if you bother to follow it. The thing is, they allow you to choose if you care or not and most people just don't care.
