Playing avi files...corruption?!

I have some movies I used to be able to watch without a problem. They seem to have become corrupted. Gspot reports it can view, which is true, but they are garbled, squashed and pink; in other words unwatchable. Can anyone recommend a better avi player I can download? Or perhaps a different kind of fix? Any help much appreciated!

I just ran gspot again on one of these files. It reported no problems so I attempted to run through gspot. Media player 9 opened and it ran! "Strange" I thought. So I shut media player down and opened it again directly. It worked. I still don't believe it, so I try another file which had started showing up garbled. This worked too. Beginning to feel hope...will try the 1st file once more. Garbled again. WTF?!

Try using ffdshow codec.
