This week?s trimmed and lean episode of Played kicks off with discussion of Grand Theft Auto IV and its just-announced multiplayer modes, with a bit of a detour to discuss Chris? lack of Counter-Strike prowess?Liz also chimes in to discuss her lack of gaming prowess all around. The crew is also surprised to learn that Criterion?s new Burnout: Paradise island content will be free.

Liz has been playing quite a lot of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, while Chris has continued to spend his time on Advance Wars: Days of Ruin as well as PC classic No One Lives Forever 2. Mark has finished up Lost Odyssey and Army of Two, and is currently deep into Patapon on PSP.

Finally, head over to our upgraded forums, which feature a cleaner look, better functionality, and a brand-new URL.

http://www.playedpodcast.com/2...-16/played-episode-36/

Enjoy guys! :)

I suck at CS too. Something about nonrespawning style FPS owns me. I guess I'm too impatient to be super careful and sneaky.

I'm really looking forward to the new Burnout DLC. Is there a timeframe this should be hitting the market? I didn't hear one in the podcast.

You used the same music as the Player One Podcast mid-show.

Mouse-clicks and typing during the show while you're obviously not paying attention to what your co-host is saying is bad. Obviously if he's boring you enough to get you to look up other information while he's speaking, he's boring random people listening on the internet.

You cut the show down to ~30 minutes now by just talking about what you guys have been playing - but in all honesty, I just can't imagine why anyone would care what 3 random people are playing - it's not like you're in the industry or anything. If anything, a specialized (possibly humorous?) topic on a particular game you've been playing would be more intriguing than just a small, vocal review of every game. The dialogue is bland and cheesy, and there isn't a stand-out personality who can carry the show.

Elizabeth is bad at games. I get it. It's just not funny.

Sorry to be kind of a dick about it, but this is the 3rd time I've listened and you're still batting 0.

Cool--so it sounds like our Podcast isnt for you. Thanks for atleast giving us a shot. Maybe you'll find a more fitting one out there, as there are thousands of gaming Podcasts. :)

But regarding the Player One Podcast and the music--great--thanks for the info. I'll fire our sound guy for using royalty free music (that's included, by Apple, in Garageband) which Player One has obviously adopted in it's show before every other Podcaster. Shit, now I have to go over to the Apple forums and let everyone know the bad news--the song is off limits! Someone else has dibs already. :(

You know, we're here to just have a good time and chat about games. Not to try to make money off this (do you see any ads on the website or the Podcast?), so it's just a little hobby of ours.

warcrow, I listened to the podcast last night and I thought I'd let you know I enjoyed it. I've listened to the past three or four, although I think I only caught part of the last one. I do think you tend to find a funny joke and beat it to death each episode :p, but otherwise you guys always have some interesting things to say that I sometimes find myself discussing with my friends.

I can imagine that people care what 3 random people are playing since that's pretty much what this forum is made up of (not to mention that playedpodcast obviously has some resemblance of a fan base). I doubt most people on ATCG know each other personally, and that's mostly what goes on here: discussion of video games amongst complete strangers.

Anyways, keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the kind words, Nilla, seriously. It means a lot (and I'll be sure to pass it on to Chris and Liz.).

I do tend to beat some jokes to death, I really need to stop doing that--heh. Sometimes when I go back and listen to the final cut of the podcast, I want to yell at myself, "shut it!"

I agree with you--I think our views are different enough about many many subjects, we kind of have a voice for a lot of people (but oviously not everyone).

We've had some interesting listener mail recently and I think I'm going to read them on the show--including this post (and probably ducci's).

No prob. Actually, it can be funny but it does get old eventually. At least it did this time around. :) I feel like Chris and Liz often miss out on a lot of jokes that you "subtly" bash them over the head with.

I was simply making a note of the music - I'm aware it is a canned clip from Garage Band - they actually admitted to it themselves during one show if I recall. Just bringing it to your attention.

I also never mentioned money or ads or anything, so I'm not sure where that came from. Regardless of the motivation, it's still content you are willingly delivering to people, so there will always be criticisms of it. What you do with those criticisms is up to you, really. Like you said, it's not a show for me. I don't expect you to make it a show for me, but I'm giving my opinion on why it isn't. That's all.

"Random people" was probably a poor choice of words. I understand forums such as this are just random people giving their opinions - although this is an active discussion rather than a passive medium such as a podcast. I guess I meant moreso that their discussions of games don't seem to carry much weight. But then again, I also scoff a little when I see warcrow posting giant reviews of a game he's played for 2 hours on these forums for whatever reason.

The show is bland, and that's basically all you need to take from my criticisms. It actually reminds me a lot of the Gamers With Jobs "Conference Call" podcast. That is another one I listen to when I'm bored at work and scraping the bottom of the podcast barrel. It's very clean cut, PG, sterile, cheesy humor kind of stuff. And that's cool if you're a clean cut, PG, sterile, cheesy humor kind of guy. I am not, so it is not for me, so that's that.

Haha--ok ok, I get it--you dont like our Podcast.

I just post impressions of games because...well....I like to do it. I find it enjoyabe to write that stuff up for the ATCG communite because I like a lot of the posters here. It's a smarter, more mature gaming community than most and I've been here for years. If you dont like the impression posts, well I guess you can make an offical complaint to Quesy or the personal issue forums if you like? I'm not sure what you're looking for here or what this has to do with a Podcast that I do with two other people.

If you have an issue with me, put me on ignore or send me a PM if you like and we can work out our differences there?

I like the show. It seems like ducci dislikes a lot of the things that make me want to listen to it. Oh well.

I really wish I could get this to show up on my zune under podcasts. i had to rename it as a regular MP3 and put it under music for it to show up. I also still wish it was on the marketplace so it would auto-sync with my zune :)

I'll try to give a listen to this tomorrow on the way to/from work.

lol make an official complaint or block you? Are you serious?

You're definitely taking this the wrong way - it's not some personal attack on you. I don't mind whatever you do - I'm not looking for anything here - I simply voiced my opinion on the podcast and related it to here. No big deal. Like I said, it's just not my thing. Apparently other people dig it. That's cool. You can't please everyone.

Really, you're having problems? Over the weekend, I resubscribed at Warcrow's request for me to check out the new format, and I have no problems. Take the following URL:

http://www.playedpodcast.com/feed/

...and create a manual subscription within the Zune software. There's a button in the lower-left of the podcast screen that says "Add a Podcast". Paste that URL in there, and you should be good to go. I did this yesterday, and it automatically queued up the last 3 episodes like I have it set to do. They were then automatically synced to my Zune in the car, and they were ready to listen when I get to work this morning.
