Play video's from PC on Wide Screen TV

I'm looking for suggestions on what hardware to buy to connect a PC to my widescreen HDTV. Widescreen TV has numerous video connections. I would like to use component video connection. On the PC I have WIN XP PRO SP2.

I'm not all that interested in connecting to cable. More interested in a interface from PC to HDTV. I've tried s-video from display card but that looks nasty.

you should be more specific as to what connections your TV has. my widescreen tv is a 27" Olevia LCD. It has a VGA and DVI input, so it works great w/ my computer. Let us know what inputs your TV has.

HDTV is a Toshiba 34HF81 . I also indicated I tried s-video. Also has rca type a/v jacks. And of course the coax connection. But as I indicated I wan't or prefer to use the ColorStream (component video) connection.

Then you need a videocard that supports component out, you might already have one for all I know. If you don't there are lots of options to choose from depending on your needs.

I dont know of any video board that has component video output. Tried s-video from video board I have but it sucks. Looking to buy something else that supports component video. I'm looking for input from someone that has a card that supports componenet video. Or something better.

Seriously, just about every new ATI card supports component out, either directly with included cables or with their HDTV component adaptor.

There are also plenty of Nvidia based cards that support component out, they are branded as "personal cinema" cards.

So yes I have tried s-video.
But s-video is not the same as component video. What ATI board has a component video out?

Yeah I was just being a smartass about s-video since you kept repeating and quoting yourself with regards to that.

As for ATI cards that support component out, like I said most all do; Any 9800, 9700, 9600, 9500 and even the 8500 all work with their HDTV component addapter and the x800 and x700 cards support componet out directly (yes that is YPrPb) like the one you listed above. Although unless you are big on gameing and x800 would be a bit overboard.

Ok ya I have nothing but nvidia cards. Will have to look at ATI stuff. What board would you recomend for about a hundred bucks snowman?

Well, I'm not snowman, but I'll make a comment anyway

I'm currently usind the DVI to Component converter on my radeon9800pro and it's pretty nice. Games look great with it. adapter

Text is still not too geat with it though... but that's probably more a fault of my display than the card.

For $100, if you can find a used radeon 9700 pro that would be a really nice option. A new radeon 9600 pro would probably be my second choice... I'm liking ATI at the moment in this price range.

Are you looking for an AGP card or a PCI-E card?

Yeah a 9700 is a good idea if you want decent 3d peformace, if you don't care about 3d then even a $60 9550se will be fine.

I have it hooked up to an infocus 4805 projector. Its resolution is EDTV or 854x480. When I have it in native resolution it looks fine, but when I want to acutally see a whole page for example, it has to compress the text to the resolution and it gets a bit nasty.

If your TV has a good native resolution it should be able to display text well when you get a good connection from your card.
