Plastic-Dip???? What's the worst that could happen?

I am experimenting with an old case and wanted to paint the interior/mb tray. Instead of a rattle can I decided to use Plastic-Dip and it came out pretty nice so far. I would think that it would provide more sound/vibration deadening than paint but it may trap heat as well.

That black, rubberized finish like you have on Razer mice and Xarmor keyboards would be a neat way to finish a case (integrated with black metal grilles), if there were a DIY method.

well Plastic-Dip is spray-on rubber. it's easily reversible as it peels off solid surfaces but is durable if you put down a few layers. I'm going to complete the entire interior of my case when I get some time.

Plasti-Dip is a great product, and super durable. I've used it on exterior automotive applications a number of times with great success. Never thought to use it on a PC case, but there is no doubt it would function well there too.

how easy is it to get a smooth, even coating with this stuff? i have a lcd monitor with a small crack in the plastic. i was thinking about sanding, filling in the crack and using vinyl dye, but maybe this stuff would be an alternative?

it seems to smooth itself out once it dries. it has a matte finish that looks great.

Does it stick to wood? I'm considering using it to respray a few bookshelf speakers.

according to the can it sticks to wood and even textiles

Hmmm, plastidip is shiny or is your case still drying?

Exterior was actually painted by an autobody shop about 10 years ago. I only sprayed the interior surfaces.

I'll be able to test the sound damping in a couple days when I get a cheap 939 motherboard. I'll also try to take some pics next to my 800D. It is about an inch taller but slightly narrower and shorter than the Corsair.

Do you have a link to what you're using -- is it this stuff here? I see multiple sources online.

Your link is correct. I used the stuff in the spray can (black lid). I bought mine at Lowes for under $6.00 can and used almost 2 cans. It goes on like spray paint but takes longer to dry and dries in a smooth matte finish that can be layered. The only issues I run in to are the tight tolerances between panels can scrape off the rubber.

would it be possible to get some higher resolution pictures? at first glance it does look pretty smooth, but i'd like a closer look if possible 🙂

very interested in your perception on the sound dampening effect
