I have a pioneer pdp434 and played my first few levels of doom 3 on that... absolutely breathtakingly B-E-A-UTIFUL.. then played on my crt and dam the crt was pathetic infront of the plasma... burn in does occur, but nominal at the max... the blacks were outstanding

Risk of burn in can be minimized by taking the TV off of torch mode. Calibrate the thing properly with Avia or Video Essentials calibration DVDs. Or you can use one of the LucasArts THX DVDs which has calibration patterns as part of the disc. I've had a rear projection CRT for 5 years and there is zero burn in.
