Plasma TV: how do I get a good picture from my PC?

So at work we have a pc hooked up to a plasma tv (this one-NEC PX-42VP4PA)

Problem is that the picture is very blurry and looks like crap.

What do I need to do to get it to look good?

current resolution is 1280x1024 and we are using the analog out on the computer.
I'm pushing for a new video card that has DVI.

Thanks!

Odd how it says 1280x1024 in the specs. It's not the right aspect ratio. I'd try using 1280x720, or 853x480 since that might be the native res.

no 1:1 pixel mode?

just set to 853 x 480, the rest of the resolutions are bs and scaled down. doesn't matter so much for video, it'll just look like 853 x 480 no matter whats inputed, but text well, you can't lose that kinda detaill. its not even hd, thats a low resolution edtv.

be sure to set windows dpi to around 60 when using resolutions that low on such a large screen.

1. set it to 853 x 480. ONLY set it to 853 x 480. No matter what people say, set it to 853 x 480. That is the default rez, and at anythign else it will lok atrocious.

2. Usign a DVI cable, HOPEFULLY, the PC should be able to pull the monitor info, and the resolution might be available immediately once you reboot with it plugged in.

2.If not download Powerstrip here and have it set the resolution fore you http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm

P.S. A DVI vs a regular RGB cable won't make a difference unless the video card is really really bad and/or old, or the cable is crappy.

If it is a 7000 series ATI card and higher or a geforce 5xxx or higher, analog should be jsut fine...

<---didn't trust the geforce 4xxx series;)

That's a very low resolution screen (like most TVs) - you need to set the resolution on the PC to be the same (or as close to) that of the screen.

Ideally, you should use 853 x 480 - but if your PC won't do that, then you'll have to use 640 x 480.

From NEC
Physical resolution 853 x 480 pixels

If said Linux box has an nVIDIA card in it, just manually set the resolution to 853x480.

It's an EDTV. Everything is going to look scaled (fuzzy) if you are not at the native resolution.

I have a Panansonic EDTV, and it looks fine (albeit stretched) if I run at 1024x768 with large font in winXP. I had to tweak the overscan setting on nvidia drivers to make the desktop fit the viewable area of the screen.

what GUI? KDE or Gnome. THey might have that resolution as an option already or you can define your own...at least in the x86config iirc
