Planning to buy a nice LCD, need suggestions

What is the best monitor I can get for $2000 or less? It will be used mostly for gaming and web browsing, and occasional casual graphics work. I know of the 23" Apple Cinema and the Sony 23" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824006084. I know both of these got good reviews when they came out but I think they've been out a good while and I haven't paid attention to much thats come out since. Finding good review roundups is hard because they (understandably) focus on less expensive monitors. I don't really have a preference between widescreen or 4:3, I just want the best monitor I can afford. I will go with a smaller one (20-21") if they are much better quality, I just don't want to go smaller if price is the only advantage. I don't mind spending more since I go a very long time between monitor upgrades. I'm still using my old 19" Sony CRT. Any suggestions?

$2k for gaming and web browsing... now i get your username.

only joking. 😉 but why not just get a 37" lcd tv w/ dvi, or no wait, grab a used car and a 20" lcd.

I'm a fan of the dell 2405 model personally, but all of the 23"+ monitors I have looked at have been outstanding. Here is somewhat if a roundup review at this website: http://www.behardware.com/articles/567-1/23-and-24-lcd-monitors-roundup.html

Another option would be the sony 23" wide. Sony has a very good reputation for displays, although they are always a bit pricier then the competition: http://tinyurl.com/acrfc

Finally do not overlook the option of using a good HDTV display as your monitor if you want something bigger then 23-24". Something like this would work well, although you would need to maintain a good distance from it given it's sheer size: http://tinyurl.com/85tw2

We have dual 30" Apple Cinema Display's at work. They are nice, but perhaps a little too big on the desk. We also ten of the Sony SDM-P234's and they are great. The only problem with them is that they do not have a USB hub built in. My next purchase for work is the Dell 2405 since it is just like the Sony, but with 4 USB 2.0 ports, and an integrated 9-in-1 flash card reader.

My vote would go for the 37" Westinghouse LCD.

1920 X 1080 P

HDTV and computer monitor at the same time.

And you are ready for XBOX 360, Playstation 3.. etc..

1999$ US

I should have mentioned I probably need something that goes on the desk. The 37" display is very tempting but I don't know how well it would work for my room. My face is only 3 to 4 feet away from the wall it would go on. Rearranging the room isnt practical either because both me and my wife have our computers and our TV set up in here so its fairly cramped. I have seen the 30" Apple and its amazing but I can't afford it. It's listed closer to $3k than $2k on pricegrabber and from what I've heard you need a special video card to use it.

Thanks for all the responses though. Based on responses I got from another forum I had pretty much decided on the Dell 2405, but you all have given me more options to look into. Sounds like the Dell is still a strong candidate, but not the only option to think about.
