Planning on buying headphones off ebay -- How to tell if it is grey market?

I plan to buy the Sony MDR-V700 headphones off ebay. I don't want to mess with refurbished items at all. The description says it is, "This is a brand new, factory sealed Sony MDR-V700DJ".

Should I have to worry? How often do people claim things to be brand new and end up with shipping out grey market items? His feedback is pretty good.

TIA

This guy also has a lot of 25 of this exact headphone for sale.

So 9/10 times if the seller claims it is brand new, along with pretty good feedback, it is safe to say it's brand new?

That's funny, I thought we weren't supposed to use that word anymore, something about getting banned ;)

I'd say so.

I bought a set of Sony headphones off of ebay once. I guess they were gray market but they were new like promised.

Have had no problems with them and I use them practically everyday.

What's funny about it? I don't see anything wrong with it. He was voicing his opinion of the sexual preference of ebay. That's ok. :)

grey market and refurb are two very different things....

refurb is when someone sends something to the manufacturer that is broken for repair, the manufacturer "refurbs" it and then it is sold/retuned.....

essentially everything you buy on ebay that isn't from an authorised sony dealer is either private party or grey market sales...for example a non sony auth storefront on ebay buys a few thoudand headseats from a local retailler at a huge discount, they then proceed to list them on ebay at a slight markup..this is the grey market, not illegal but not authoized retail either.

So basically those items may have fallen off the back of a truck and someone is now selling them? So there should be NO defects or anything wrong with the headphones right? It's brand new, retail-like, except a Sony authorized dealer is not selling them?
