My fiancee and I are planning a trip to the Bronx zoo next weekend and I wanted to get some input from folks that have been there on what the best things to see are.

We will be getting there right around the time they open and will probably spend the whole day so we will be able to cover quite a bit.

We'll be driving in from NJ.

any thoughts?

thanks

I'll be bringing my A85 and taking lots of pics.

You can really see the whole zoo in an afternoon. I like the tiger exhibit and the sea lions the best. Last time I went, all the insect/butterfly exhibits were closed (late fall), maybe those are open now.

The zoo rocks. My wife and I just went to the Pittsburgh zoo two weeks ago. The aquarium is my favorite part :D

The real animals are outside the zoo. Do not venture far from the zoo itself. You are, after all, in The Bronx.

I havent been to the bronx zoo in about 14 years but i heard that they made a lot of renovations over the last couple of years. its a whole lot nicer and more modern than what it used to be.

Have fun!

I've been to enough Yankee games to know the drill.

Im from NJ and took the train in last time...traffic is killer when you leave. Get the POPS ticket so you can go on the sky ride, little train, and the butterfly conservatory is awesome!

I was planning on that, I think you can even buy tickets online.

The monorail is great. I also enjoy the cable car, but you have to plan your walk around in order to that.

Park in the Asia parking lot and be there just before they open and you can walk in for free...although you take the money away to be used for the animals and parks.

But really i went this summer, parked at the Asia parking lot and went in through this entrace like 5 minutes before they open, and it was not just me like lots of people. I though i was in like a pre-entrace area... I start walking around looking for a ticket booth and can't find anything but the booth to buy tickets for the monorail and sky ride etc. I ask an employee where could I buy tickets. He was like umm you are already inside the park..how did you get in without a ticket? I'm like I just walked in through there. Anyways they were all confused, just happen that we were honest and finally found a ticket booth and paid for our entrace.

Edit: what to see.. The Tigers, but be ready to be dissapointed if they are sleeping. They do a feeding and some lecture, but if the tigers don't want to participate then you are out of luck.
