Planning a trip to Scotland/England - any advice?

Looks like we'll be travelling to the British Isles again mid-June. We'll probably fly into Glasgow or Edinburgh and then make our way down and fly out of London. We plan on driving and being there for about 10 days

Any recommendations on places to see/visit/eat?

I only went once years ago in 9th grade but I remember I really loved Warwick Castle, so it gets my vote. It's not for everyone, but seeing a 'real' play I think is a really good experience too, I saw Lion King and My Fair Lady and loved them both; also saw Measure for Measure (Shakespeare) but it can be tough to keep up if the dialogue hasn't been modernized. Also Shakespeare's grave is a very neat place.

And whatever you do, avoid the Isle of Man.

If you see a Scotsman wearing a kilt, it's customary to yell "Scotty!" as you flip his kilt up. After a successful flip, stand by, and he'll give you a dram from his flask.

http://www.nandos.co.uk/ Also good.. but its a chain, its grill chicken, made to order, so takes time.. if you do go, grab a table from the host/hostess and order your stuff from the menu and they'll bring it to you.. check the menu online.

If you're taking the train from Edinburgh down to London you should definitely take in both Durham and York. Durham will be a quick couple of hours as it's mainly to see the Durham Cathedral but I'd definitely suggest stopping at York. Walk the city walls, see the national train museum, and of course Yorkshire Abbey.

It's not as fun as you think the best thing I've ever found was a coin from 1706.. Meh.

I'd be thrilled to find an old coin. It might not be worth much, but it's still pretty cool. One of the best things about my old job was finding the glass dump on older properties. I have a bunch of old bottles, and miscellaneous junk I got from dumps.

Have you ever checked out old battlefields? Battles were pretty well documented, and the sheer amounts of people involved should almost guarantee you find something.
