Planning a nice vacation to somewhere sunny

Looking for a nice cheap place where the dollar goes far, looking for somewhere that has nice siteseeing and a sunny beach.

Looking at costa rica right now and Gutamala. Perferably out of the country, we're going the week of May 22-30.

What you guys recommend, anywhere i should avoid/stay away from?
 
I would say the South Pacific but because of your budget I would go for Mexico or the Caribbiean (sp?).

Heard good things about verana or others close to Puerto Vallareta. I've been to Cabo san Lucas its nice but its $$$ for Mexico and there are nicer places. Let us know what you decide.
