Hi all, new here. Planning my 1st ever build, and on a very tight budget (£400). Only been back into computing since august last year and want to do 3d rendering and drawing, Blender, Gimp and maybe Photoshop, and some games, newer the better. Current pc is a Acer Aspire netbook and it is very slow, last pc was an Athlon 1200Mhz.

Now possible builds

AMD A10 5800k £96.17
AsRock FM2A85X Extreme4 £61.91
Patriot 8GB (2x 4GB) 2133MHz Dual Channel DDR3 Viper 3 Black Mamba £54.20
Western Digital Green - 1TB £51.99
Samsung 24x SATA DVD Writer £13.59
ACE STAC2 460W Micro ATX £24.03
AOC E2260SWDA 21.5 inch Widescreen £86.72
CiT Keyboard + Mouse £8.49
TP-Link TL-WN781ND 150Mbps Wireless PCI Express Adapter £8.76

Total = £405.86

or

Athlon II X4 750k £58.52
AsRock FM2A75M-DGS £45.46
Corsair CMX8GX3M2B1600C9 XMS 8GB 1600MHz CL9 £39.16
all same as above bar case + gpu
CiT Shade Micro ATX £28.85
2GB XFX Radeon HD 7750 Ghost £69.30

Total = £412.84

or with

Leadtek WinFast Nvidia GTX 650 Ti 1024MB £79.99

Total = £423.53

Will the parts i have chosen work together, and i know it will be a cheap psu in the cases but hopefully be enough, remember tight budget. If all ok can you tell me which would be best, pretty sure it will be cpu + gpu . Any other viable options.
Thanks all.

I meant like this :)

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
3d rendering, photo editing and some gaming

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
£400

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
UK

4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
Amazon.co.uk only? Or do you accept scan.co.uk, ebuyer, dabs, ariapc, etc.?

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
none

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
none

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
default

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?
seems like you're going for 1080p

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.
ASAP?

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?
Since it's a new build I imagine you do need new copy of Windows. If so, is the overall budget still £400?

Didn't see a keyboard and a mouse in your parts lists - do you already have these?

Is the wireless essential, can't you use a cable instead? That'd save a few quid and provide a more stable connection.

Relative to the 7750 that 650Ti is a steal. I would go for that with the Athlon.

Sorry about mistake.:(
I will be using mainly for 3d rendering, that's why I went AMD, thinking 4 cores would be better, but seeing the quality of some games nowadays I wouldn't mind playing some of them, Farcry, Crysis 3, F1 2012 etc.

Would buy from anywhere as long it was cheaper.

Build date I don't know, still scraping money together but hopefully sooner rather than later.

Resolution I'm not sure, HD quality? Again been out of computing for about 10 years.

Going the wireless route because thinking of still being able to use netbook, (while sitting on sofa) and using the power of desktop? Will that work?

There is a cheap CiT keyboard and mouse in that list.

That 650TI would be better for Blender cycles rendering.

I have W8 and Ubuntu.

Overclocking I don't know, possibly in the future.

Thanks for your comments.

I think that your APU build is a generally good idea considering that you are looking for a mix of CPU and GPU power yet are on a tight budget. I'd make some tweaks though:

- Mobo: You can save some money here by going with an ASRock FM2A55M-DGS for £42.
- RAM: Shave off a little more with this Crucial Ballisix kit for £50.
- HDD : Avoid using "Green" drives as your system drive. This WD Blue 1TB is £53.
- Case+PSU: Avoid any PSU that is bundled with a no-name case. This is where your budget is going to get hurt a little. Get the XFX Core 450W for £40 and some cheap case for £26

Thanks mfenn.

Will that mb be ok with the A10. I thought a55mb was for lower end apu's, and was only going for faster ram because I thought apu's responded better to them.
But money saving is good, and that's why I was going for case+psu. Didn't think that system would need that much power so even with a cheap 460w, I thought would be ok. Are they that bad.

Thanks for your help.

The chipsets are interchangeable. I wouldn't get it due to lacking USB 3.0, though, where an A75 and A85 have that (there's no meaningful difference between the latter two).

You won't need much power. It's that low quality PSUs can cause long-term problems, including damage to sensitive components and/or data corruption, and are often a PITA to troubleshoot when they do. With increasing efficiency requirements, quality PSUs tend not to be too much cheaper in low wattages. It's common for many no-name supplies to not even meet the ATX spec over their power delivery range.

This Antec should be a good cheaper one, assuming you never plan to add a beefy video card to the system.

It's no good.

Efficiency doesn't mean anything when it comes to quality. It's just the % at which AC power is converted to DC power, and has nothing to do with the stability of that power nor the reliability of the components in the PSU.

Given the OP's budget, I think getting a decent PSU has precedence over getting a mobo with USB 3.0.
