I tried it out a little and there are some good things about it. I like charging an enemy held structure with tons of tanks, planes and soldiers on your side. Sniping can be fruitful since the land is target rich. Regarding performance, I may do a CPU thread analysis to see how the game scales with thread count. I am betting this is a two thread game designed for dual core CPUs. Performance is pretty nasty.

They have said that they haven't optimized the game for threading at all yet. It is supposed to come in a future patch to the game.

If memory serves, it's either a selectable item in your inventory like weapons (like in BF3) or it's considered an accessory like the nano-regen pack, which has its own use key (F). Only light assault suits have ammo packs to begin with, though.

Light Assaults do not have ammo packs, Engineers do.

You can either scroll through your weapons until you find the ammo pack. Or, if you have the turret deployable out, you can press B to switch to ammo packs.

Another handy little tidbit that apparently not too many people know, since it came up when talking to a friend this morning who told me he found it very difficult to drive any vehicle not named "Flash" because of the horribly limited visibility (the Sunderer is particularly bad).

Press "T" to switch to 3rd person view while driving a vehicle. 🙂

I trained the AMS skill for the sunderer. Is that anything else I need to do in order to deploy it? I pressed B but nothing happens.

When you're in the Sundy... look at the minimap. You'll see big grey circles on it - those are the spheres that an already deployed AMS Sundy occupy. You can't deploy another AMS Sundy in one of those circles.

Otherwise, look I think in upper right above (or below?) the Sundy health pic when you stop, it will say "Press (B) to Deploy" if your Sundy is capable of deploying in that particular area. On top of the existing Sundy rule, you have to make sure that the ground is level enough for your Sunderer to be deployed on.

you need to apply the cert to your vehicle loadout. I couldn't figure it out for a while myself

Hmm that may be it. I will check that tonight. These types are games are fun because you can support the team by not going on killing rampages of 90-1. Trying to do my part 🙂

Honestly, most of the guns are pretty much the same net result imho. You'll find the main differences are trade offs between rate of fire versus bullet damage. You'll never find a "true upgrade" to both stats at the same time.

Your best bet in my opinion is invest in the utility/armor certs first which are general purpose to your preferred class before investing in the weapons themselves (aside from maybe a scope or something if you like fighting more at range than close quarters, etc). Being able to take a few extra hits or hold an extra grenade or having your shield recharge faster is more important than having a bullet hit harder less frequently in my opinion. For example, as a combat medic, I upgraded my medtool and nanohealing ability exclusively. The gun is kind of there just in case.

That, and the weapon unlocks cost a lot more (in terms of cert points) AND you have to rebuy any grip/rail upgrades for the new weapons if you had previously bought them for your old weapon - they do not transfer.

Plus, as was said, you can trial the weapons at your leisure to see if there's one you prefer.

yea, I wasn't talking weapons. Currently I'm thinking the default shield and nanoweave armor.

Played for a little bit today. It seems needlessly complicated at times. Guess I've been programmed by BF3 and COD games to want streamlined gameplay.

Once I figure out how the bases work and how to use the map it should get better.

The thing that kills me though is that the cert costs seem fantastically high. 1000 Certs for a new Max gun? Or a good shotgun? I've played for hours upon hour and I think I've earned 500 certs total? I used the demo to try the 1000 cert carbine for light assault (Vanu) and I really liked it. But the thought of grinding for days to get it is killing me.

Is there some trick to getting certs besides paying? I think I know the answer already, but I'm a pollyanna.

You can use Station Cash to unlock weapons. Station Cash costs real life money. Personally I have no issue doing this because I really like the game and I'd rather spend those valuable certs on class/weapon upgrades.

This should help with now to cap bases.

If you're going to buy SC, look for deals. I would assume they would ahve one for the holidays. Bought by when it was 3X.

The long distance views are gorgeous in this game. I would love, though, a high res texture pack addition. Some of the stuff up close is badly washed out.

Not worth it if it only unlocks for that one character.

I'm really enjoying this game. Lots of fun with a squad on vent using teamwork.

One item is really critical in this game: the map.

The map is always changing. I have triple monitors but game on one to keep my FPS up. One thing that would be really sweet is if the map could be constantly displayed full screen on one of my other monitors. Anyone anywhere if this can be done? Or any programs that could do this? If not, wouldn't it be a good idea for someone to write a mod to enable it?

Just want to mention in a recent interview, the devs have gone on record as saying ANY TYPE OF MOD no matter how mundane will be considered as a hack since they have no way to differentiate between legitimate mods and cheats. Using any sort of mod... Any at all will get your account and characters deleted.

the money system in this is tedious... takes forever to make any ingame money to upgrade.. 1 cert for the time it takes is ridiculous

It really isn't that bad. You'll get your first batch of certs pretty quickly, which works well for grabbing a good number of the 1 cert upgrades so you can upgrade a variety of classes quite a bit for such a small investment.

Beyond that, you really aren't crippled without spending money. Some things are direct upgrades (better ability, for example) but you aren't useless without it. The guns and things are pretty much all side-grades and most about playstyle than anything else.

So, yeah, you won't be unlocking every single item for an extremely long time - but you'll be able to be extremely competitive in the (long but fairly reasonable) time takes you to trick out your chosen class/vehicle.

You know, the game has this really bad habit of disconnecting me from the server as soon as I start to go on a decent run. Which doesn't happen all that often mind you. Going on a decent kill run that is. I'm usually the one being killed. But still, I tend to get disconnected at the most inopportune times, like when I'm actually doing halfway decent.

We were taking back Amerish last light, deep down in TR territory pounding on biolab. Somehow, our light zerg managed to let 3 full galaxies of TR troops land and drop in to reinforce the lab. After a death or two, I platform jumped up onto one of the landing pads and that's when it happened... I got on one of those magical mythical kill streaks.

Medic here - couple shots takes him out. Light assault there. Dead. Infiltrator running up to me - boom. Heavy across the way - dead. I cleared off the platform Rambo style with me and my badass self, then proceeded to take out about 4 more guys covering the entry through various points of cover before FINALLY some of my own reinforcements show up. Then I start poking my way around the corner, we're close to the gen and cap D, and I'm picking off another handful of TR that are running to go cover the gen and point D, along with making a MAX's life painful.

It was totally magical... I never, ever go on kill runs like that. I even have a medic behind me patching me up at this point, and about a dozen or so friendlies to help out.

"You have been disconnected from the server."

Yeah, screw you too server.
