TTK? You mean like how many shots it takes to kill someone?

Yes, and no. The number of bullets it takes to kill is part of TTK, but it is affected also by recoil, deviation/spread, bullet drop, hit boxes(hitting the arm does less damage than chest), rate of fire, even hit detection counts.

Here's an example of why it's not just bullet damage; a gun that kills in 10 hits can kill faster in live combat game situations than a gun that kills in 4 hits if it has no recoil and fires a laserlike stream of bullets.

they feel cheap and fake to me.

there is no resistance against any movement no matter how crazy.

Cheap and fake? How do video game controls feel cheap? Like you have a cheap keyboard? And fake, they feel no more fake then any other video game. Actually I take that back, Tribes and Unreal feel fake. And Halo.

What would you say is an example of a FPS that doesnt feel fake?

There's been an upswell of population since E3 hit on the original Planetside. Was involved in a couple of huge battles last night.

So, Planet Side is endless battles, day after day. Does anybody ever "win"?
Is there a 'big picture' I am missing?

Here's a new video on Gamespot.

There are no timers and resets, that's really the whole point. It's a persistent war on an absolutely massive scale that dwarfs any other multiplayer FPS game.

The persistence and scale also allow for war stories like, remember when we 10 held off 50 guys long enough to get reinforcements?

And, it isn't just about endless battles, its' the scale, too. When you see 20 Galaxies afterburn away with 12 guys in each one, it's a sight to see.

Or 100 tanks steamrolling across a bridge...

The night time parts of the streams are so nice to see. All the explosions and other lighting effects have me giddy for the beta!

Actually this is one of the reasons the original planetside 1 died out. People fight, battle it out, etc, but there is no real point to the game. However, in planetside 2 they said they were going to address this somewhat, by including resources into the game. If you capture a factory your team or side will get ore, ore is used for building things like tanks. I assume if you have no factories you are going to have to rough it out with just infantry/covert ops until you take over a factory that way, and then you start getting ore and people can start buying tanks. Unless I misunderstand what they were talking about. So if you want your team to really dominate you are going to have to capture (and hold) bases. Unlike Planetside 1 where it didn't matter if you had bases at all, it was just bragging rights. After awhile people just got sick of the skirmishes since you were fighting for nothing.

Did you guys watch that new trailer? It was on massively. The character animations looked horrible. Like the walk cycles, also when a character is firing its gun. I hope this is something that is going to be changed by release.

Dont get me wrong Im someone who is hoping this game will turn out great but Ive already got some complaints from what Ive seen.

Didn't notice that at all. Looks ok to me. remember its a MMO, they will have to give/take for performance/gameplay like every mmo.

Yeah, as some have mentioned - one of the major issues with PS was that there was no real reward for capturing continents other than having it show your faction was dominating on the website. It was a case of 'yay, we captured the continent... I'm going to bed' and then when you woke up whatever hours later someone had taken some/all of it, so you had to do it all again.

That's not to say it wasn't worth playing - there were some great battles to be had. You also started to recognize the players and companies you were going up against from other factions which started some pretty intense rivalries.

Also, at the time this was good enough for MMOs. Really, no others were doing anything such as tracking/rewards when it came to PvP, even for a few years afterwards. In today's day and age, I fully expect there will be a ton of things implemented with the intent to recognize your achievements and keep things interesting.

Now let's start that beta, please...

Thats where I think an EVE approach is good. Land contains resources which you harvest to make everything in the game. So you would need resources to make your tanks, planes, guns, ammo, etc.

In a perfect world, the animations would look much, much better but I can only assume this is a trade off of the massive maps and tons of vehicles.

effortless supermanable movment uber twitch reflexes, no jump timer, the way you crouch and prone, how long it takes to change weapons etc.

COD feels very generic and fake. People complain to high hell about some of bf3s animations and 'lag' when doing things but its far more realistic.

like tribes unreal and halo yes. I find the utter feeling of total vulnerability when playing HC BF3 to be insane at times, especially on HC rush when ticket counts get low

i was not hitting at PS2 on this, just responding with my thoughts on COD style controls when asked if thats what PS was like btw.

I have NOT been able to snag a key for PS2, even in 4 hours of trying on twitter yesterday 🙁

So you think these animations look ok? Theyre supposed to be running but they barely spread their legs and their upper bodies barely move.

Also theres a lot of shots of everyone just standing around, shooting but just standing there. Looks weird to me.

I don't think that was real game play, because if you watch the video others did of actual in game it does not look like that.

Of course lots of those videos are first person view so don't see many people together.
