Having rewatched the latest totalbiscuit video, it seems to be an exact copying of BF3's vehicle customizations. Thus far they seem to be copying a lot of BF3's problems. Well, minor ones anyway. Killcam is out so that's good, but there could still be 3D spotting, and for all we know we could see disabling and other issues.

I hope they know what they're doing, at this rate they're going to have the same pockets of resistance to these features that exists in BF3.

Wow that TB video he posted flying and showing the customizing of vehicles was awesome. I want to put hearts all over my gear like that. 😀

So what's up with the ejection mod? All vehicles allowed all passengers to eject and I thought that was awesome in PS1.

Maybe it allows you to eject a certain way or take no damage whatsoever from ejecting way up high? I dunno, he does mention that a lot of those addons are there for testing.

whats wrong with BF3's vehicle customizations?

I believe that all things like ejection seats, radars etc, a vehicle should always have standard without choosing. Weapon loadouts should be the way that you really distinguish your vehicle. The ejection seat specifically being a customization that you have to choose instead of radar is probably a response to the complaining about people bailing and not getting a kill.

Nothing is wrong with them individually, I simply believe that they should all be equippable at once. You shouldn't have to choose between flares and something else, or tanks shouldn't have to choose between smoke and something else. There's just no reason why a vehicle can't carry all of those things. Now, a vehicle can't carry a full load of rockets and a full load of heatseeking AA missiles, obviously.

Vehicle customizations that are of the radar/flares/smoke/magnification optics should all be standard, always.

Edit: An exception is the customization that makes all the enemies around you show up on minimap without anyone spotting them. That's a skill/awareness compensator that doesn't belong in the game.

I guess it's also to prevent mass hot drops without needing transports? I've heard people complain about that in PS1.

I kinda like it. It let's you further specialize vehicles. You give up flares and get improved radar for example.

its a balancing mechanic

how can you blatantly pretend to ignore that

I didnt play enough PS1 to know what they did in it

though I agree that to a point alot of that stuff should be on vehicles and then you can use a slot to BUFF one up, like long range radar or longer countermeasures

and ejection seat is a customization? seems weird

Now that light assault class has jetpacks to use(unless they nerf this) it's hardly going to stop people from taking 100 bombers to the drop zone and bailing.

The point is you shouldn't have to give up any of those things, it's an unbalancing mechanic. I don't mean to reference real life because gameplay>realism, and in fact, it is simply a coincidence here that realism and the best thing for gameplay are the same thing, but it's wrong for gameplay for everyone to run around missing key capabilities that any aircraft/vehicle in real life would be carrying.

You may disagree, but I simply think that the customizations should be balanced around weapon loadout choices, not eletronic warfare and other non-weapon choices.

And I'm talking about BF3 just as much as PS2. Not that there's going to be a huge difference, PS2 will be BF3 with huge maps and future theme IMO. Not that that's a problem by itself but I wish they would not copy BF3's problems, such as the one I just described.

Don't misunderstand me though, this is not a game breaker, I'm just stating my preference. Game breakers would be killcam, 3D spotting (especially if you can Q spam to see people in the dark of night, that would be a crying low down shame), etc. Especially in an MMO, I mean, Battlefield and CoD with their small scale, it's one thing to taint them with these things but to taint a large mmo? Please no, SOE!

I just think it makes for more interesting fighting when all vehicles have what they are supposed to have. KEY NOTE though: Flares, for example, you would always have. however, unlike BF3, you would be carry a limited supply. So that's not overpowered.

No kill cam is a good thing? 😵

Yes. The killcam they have will show your killers image only, you know, to show off his uniform customizations and stuff, it will not show you where he is.

Killcam that shows your killer's location is a skill gap compensator that they have rightfully decided does not belong. (Not a quote. I don't know their reason for not including it but it's one less thing we have to ask to get removed)

Hmm, skill gaps mean nothing to me, hackers on the other hand do. Maybe they just dont want people to find out how many people are hacking their game.

Man those graphics and sounds are so freaking nice, I need to play this game!

I went ahead and gave Planetside 1 a try this week. Aside from the dated graphics, this game is fun. I can't believe I completely missed out on it! At least now I have something to keep me somewhat sated till the beta comes out.

I am sold too🙂

And if you want to play with an established Terran Republic outfit, click the link in my signature and apply. We're not the biggest, but we have always prided ourselves as being the outfit the TR leaders call on to get a job done. We plan on adding a dedicated air Cav division as well as SpecOps.

Well, I doubt that, but even if it were so, it's not like BF3 does any better. Or any other game.

Erm plenty of games do actually, it's just unfortunate that most of them are older, more PC focused titles. Couple SSHD and some decent admin tools and you'll have much fewer hackers. Go with client side hit detection with next to no admin tools and you have the hacker rapefest known as BF3.

And why would anyone want to play any other faction? :colbert:

All hail the true rulers of Auraxis! All hail the glorious Terran Republic!

Death to all Barnies and Smurfs!

Err...cough...sorry about that..I'll just go lie down now...

I really enjoyed the original when it came out. I just looked into playing it again and it looks like it still costs $13 a month!? I guess I assumed it would be cheaper by now. The second one looks pretty awesome, I'm excited at the F2P prospect. Hopefully it's well done

I know, but thats not a good thing. I just prefer being able to see what they did to kill me due to my run-ins with hackers on COD, aim boting noobs. At least COD has a good kill cam so you can see when someone is hacking.
