$30 is a great price. www.addall.com would show the cheapest available here. WalMart is about $50 on it and they are one of the low price leaders on BluRay.

I've bough a number of BR sets from Amazon UK without any issue. Got the Earth set a few months ago from there. Shipping isn't much (couple bucks) and the price after USD conversion is better than anything else I've found.

Just have to be careful. Some sets won't play in US BR Players. The Life series is one of them.

Been this price for a while, almost all items on Amazon UK end up being a few pounds cheaper at checkout, probably because there's no VAT. One thing to watch out for is an international service assessment fee from your bank/credit card tacking on a surprise dollar or two.

They also have Band of Brothers on bluray for about $27 shipped to US. Great deal if it works on US players without any issues.

Then don't get the Oprah version. There's a BBC version of Life just like Planet Earth.

US version with Attenborough, $47.
amazon.com/Life-narrated-David-Attenborough-Blu-ray/dp/B002UXRGM0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1282241886&sr=8-2

UK version, 28.95 pounds.
amazon.co.uk/Life-Blu-ray/dp/B002KSA4F6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1282242090&sr=8-1

I wasn't aware until now that the US got an Attenborough release. The UK version isn't region locked, but it is encoded at 50Hz which means few US players can handle it.

Makes me wonder if people will have the same problem with these Planet Earth discs. I'm not sure if there are separate UK and US versions of Planet Earth like there is with Life, but if so then these would be the UK version of PE... and would probably also be encoded the same as the UK version of Life.

There may have been a single version of PE though, as that forum link there said that the Attenborough AND Weaver commentary was in the same blu-ray set just as different audio tracks.

Life, however, is sold as 2 separate sets with the Oprah version not only including Oprah *shudder* but apparently 1.5 hours less footage as well.

haven't watched life, but I really enjoyed planet earth. wife bought me the regular dvd set right after it came out b/c she didn't realize that BR was, you know, better. amazingly, our bd player upscales it extremely well, it's almost as nice as it was watching the original series in hd.

I really like the sigourney weaver version, but I would be interested in the attenborough version + BD if it actually works over here.

Bigi, please let us know if it works on your player.

I just googled around, and found confirmation that this BBC version of Planet Earth doesn't have any 50Hz content... and therefore will work in any US blu-ray player.

The UK version of Life used 50Hz on the menus, which some blu-ray players in the US can convert to 60Hz and play fine... however most can't and you won't even be able to skip the menus.

VERDICT: All Planet Earth blu-ray copies (including the OP) can play on the US blu-ray players.
