Plane tickets from LAX to LHR in Sept

I'm planning a trip with the wife to the UK in september. I have no idea how much a flight like this should cost, since I haven't been to Europe in almost four years. Flights from LAX to LHR are around $800 (taxes and fees included) roundtrip. Good deal or no? Should I buy or wait a bit, since it's still about 4 months away?

$800 for beginning of September is normal; actually pretty good this year because of the weak pound. Last year it was around $1000 from Newark/NY where competition to LHR is much higher.

Usually the prices are lower after school starts up, so if you can delay your trip until after Labor Day, you may save some money. What dates are you looking at?

I got the same rate for the UK in Mid June. 800ish.. i was hoping for cheaper. but I dont know if that 800 includes taxes or not does anybody know. My india tickets were 980+tax so it came to 1600 RT with stops in Singapore.

If you're set on a date, the further out you buy the tickets the better it is.

Not always the case. Sometimes, yes. But on some popular routes with multiple daily flights (aimed at business class travelers) the economy fares actually drop as the date gets closer.

I just flew back from LHR to JFK on Monday on AA. The economy cabin had like 15-20 people in it. Business class was 90% full and First class had 6 passengers. They have 6 daily flights going LHR-JFK, trust me it aint for the people in coach...

Anyway I bought the ticket 3 weeks prior to flying. Back in February the fare was $75 more than what I paid. Not a big difference, and not always good to wait, but if you know your routes and busy/nonbusy times you can save some money.

Yep, nonstop. Good choices too, I can take British Airways or Virgin Atlantic at that price.

Shooting for Sep 12-20. I wanted to vacation there before it gets too cold, but I might be able to shift forward or backward a week or two. From my research, though, the price only varies maybe $20-30 when I do that.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. Another choice is Air New Zealand, who I have no experience with. Anybody fly with them before and care to comment?

You aren't guaranteed the best deal by buying right now but airfares are lower than I've seen them in years, so you could be pushing your luck if you wait. $800 rt is a fair price and I'd pay it.

Yeah, this is what I'm concerned about. Yeah, the prices could go lower, but realistically how much more could I save? If we're talking potential $600rt tix then I might chance it, but if it's going to save me $50 I'd rather just buy now and save myself the stress.

You are only going to get $600 if a budget carrier has started operating since I've last followed fares too closely (last summer). That price/distance combo is possible, but I've only seen it between London-Vancouver-Hong Kong (Oasis, went out of business), and from Kuala Lampur to London (Air Asia X).

If you don't care about $50 I'd buy the ticket now.

i flew both air asia and thai air asia. air asia was a nice new A320something, while thai air asia was a 737-300 which they couldn't bother to keep clean. even if air asia x is run more like air asia than thai air asia i'm not sure i'd want to fly it that far (though snack prices were pretty reasonable)

Well it is a budget carrier to you get what you pay for. I've flown them countless times and they get you from Point A to B but never take their later flights because or you will be late for sure. I figure I lose my right to complain when I pay, for example, $80 rt from Bangkok to Hanoi.

My family just booked our tickets last week for $815 via Air New Zealand. Travel is 3rd week of june to mid July. I think the cheapest we saw was via Air Canada for about $630 but we missed out on the deal. That flight however had a stop in Toronto.

Virgin $800 rt... book it... Leave your ipod and portable DVD player at home... wont need it for the flight their IVOD system is insane.

I just found tickets from CVG-ORD-LHR on aa for this weekend for 428 + taxes = ~$590

Wasn't planning on going but could make for a nice week in London. Not sure if the price is enough to command an unscheduled vacation though. Pound is still 1.5 dollas

Of course just noticed you are coming from the wrong side of the country, sorry for unnecessary bumpage
