I wonder if wind played a factor in this...? The wind was fucking awful today in NY. I know flights out of JFK, Newark, etc. were canceled/delayed earlier today...

That's ATC from Buffalo containing communications with and about Flight 3407.

Other planes afterwords report icing problems.

Pilot on there says icing 6500-3500.

:(

Can you summarize the mp3? I couldn't listen to it (emotionally). Probably an ice thing then? :( :( :(

(not 100% exact but basically what is said)

Approach says for Colgan 3407 to contact tower.

Colgan 3407 says ok going to other freq.

Nothing...

Colgan 3407 do you read?

Colgan 3407 do you read?

Colgan 3407 do you copy?

Colgan 3407 do you read?

Approach asks other plane if they can see the plane, they say negative.

Approach says they have a plane that went off radar 5 miles out, they need to get police or sheriff.

Other planes come in and say they were getting a lot of ice descending, one says 6500-3500 and another pilot says they've been building ice since about 20 miles out and asks to descend out of it, approach tells them to descend, they say ice starts dissipating at 2300.

I live fifteen minutes from it, I drove out there after the first report came in. The smell was unlike anything I've ever experienced before, I got the boot along with the media. No pictures, everything was in flames.

They are a local station seem to be covering it the most thorough. All 48 on board confirmed dead, 1 on the ground dead, rumored to be in the house at the time. Two female's at a local hospital being treated in relation, no more information available apparently.

wind, and ice both yesterday.

i'll bet those who landed safely in the Hudson are feeling extra fortunate today after hearing this. : /

one of the deceased aboard flight 3407 was a 9-11 widow :(
