Yea was thinking the same, but must not have been a factor if they made it from Cali to Montana before they had trouble.

this is an epic success of efficiency in transportation. they can bury the victims right there in the cemetery.

It is still to early to tell. But depending on where the center of gravity was, they could have had no problem taking off, but have a problem raising the nose when landing. Also as the plane flies along and burns fuel, the C.G. changes throughout the flight. I am not familiar with the Pilatus so I cannot say how far it moved.

If the kids were 6-10 years old, they could have set on their parents laps. Sad story. 🙁

That is still a violation. Every person on board needs their own seatbelt. I think airlines allow children under 2 to fly in a parents lap... but why someone would do that is beyond me.

wtf is up with all these plane crashes lately. is the recession making planes
do the bare minimum in mechanical checks?

Hudson River - bird strike
Tokyo - likely pilot error (30-50mph gusts, no emergency declaration from cockpit)
Buffalo - commuter crash (still undetermined, but icing is suspected)
Montana - reports are that a 9 person plane was carrying 14 people, possibly overloaded

Airlines will always do the minimum in mechanical checks which are pretty extensive anyway. It is only when they find something wrong will they expand on it or if there is a directive from the FAA. I think we had a good 2 year run without any fatal accidents, and now we are just having some unfortunate accidents that could have been prevented.

Don't bury the victims, just bury the entire plane, case closed.

Too soon!

The original joke is

Poland?s worst air disaster occurred today when a small 2-seater plane crashed into a cemetery this morning.

Polish search and rescue workers have recovered 826 bodies so far and expect that the number will climb as the digging continues into the night.

but yeah... too soon.

What a tragedy...17 kids on a ski trip 🙁
500 ft from the destination?
I wonder what could've caused the crash to occur so close to the destination... pilot error?

How much is 500ft in relation to the plane?

Now they are saying 7 children and 7 adults. The plane is listed as a Pilatus PC-12 with a seating capacity of eight.

14 dead? they are also saying that number can go up the more they dig. 🙁

Ugg, happened in the next town over (yeah, 90 miles) from me. It will be interesting to hear the full story when it comes out as to who the people are. I am also curious why they diverted to Butte instead of Helena of Billings.

Fuel perhaps? Carrying a lot of weight the plane wasn't intended for they may have lost a lot of range.

Kind of reminds me of the old joke from Ron White about flying while drunk.

Guy in the seat next to him asks (about an engine failure) "How far will the second engine get us?"

Ron White answers "All the way to crash site!"

Makes me laugh, anyway.

Those Pilatus' aren't very large, they must have had kids sitting ontop of one another in there. Not nearly large enough for 14...

I suspect a CG issue also. This accident has something in common with the Buffalo accident.
Both planes lost control at the time of a likely configuration change, either flaps or gear.

This story just gets sadder and sadder. Nine of the passengers on the plane were from the same family. This means that Bud Feldkamp lost 2 daughters, 2 son-in-laws and 5 grandchildren in this tragedy.
