I have one of these and it RULES, great sound, firmware upgrades, looks cool, will take cf cards or microdrives and its easy to use.

BTW I have bought quite a few players from MyDigitalDiscount.com and they are a great site to deal with, I always get my stuff in 2 days great shipping.

If you have a newer Dell Dimension 4500/4550 you should have 6 USB 2.0 ports, so make sure your MP3 player supports USB 2.0 (other USB 1.1 is obviously slower).

A FireWire Card can be had for around $15-$25, they're not that expensive.

the Creative Muvo 128 MB can be had for $150 at most retailers. It's tiny and it connects directly to the USB port, no cables.

however, it has no on-screen display.

the Nex thingy is nice. My friend had one, worked well.

I bought this iRiver thing from Best Buy several weeks ago. The BestBuy website lists only the 32 and 64MB, in store they had the 128MB model for about $120 or 130 (after $10 MIR) IIRC.

I like this player. It has really good sound quality (compared to other mp3 players, I've listen to, of course), also has graphical display. Supports mp3 and wma, the 128MB model has fm tuner (never used it) and recording capability (never used that either).

Several things:
- the iRiver requires drivers and software to be installed as opposed to the MuVo that seems to be recognized by the OS as an exernal usb drive
- the iRiver requires usb cable, whereas the MuVo does not require any cable (check the creative web site to see how it works).

Therefore the iRiver is not very suitable to transfer data between different computers (although it is possible if you install the drivers and the software on each of the computers), but that was not a problem for me because I do not expect to use it for data transfer.

I didn't listen to the MuVo, so I have no idea which one has better sound quality; but I like the sound quality of the iRiver (IIRC people liked the sound quality of the iRiver CD mp3 player too). Also, the navigation was a little bit confusing in the beginning (probably because I didn't bother to RTFM).

If yoy decide to get a player like this, I would suggest that you compare (and if possible listen to both) the iRiver and the MuVo and see (and hear) which one is better for you.

I'm also in the market for a flash memory player.
* Good Volume
* FM
* Simplicity
Are features I'm looking for.

The area I'll be using this in is very noisy, so good volume is a must.
A good FM receiver is also a must.

Does the iRiver 180TC meet my needs? :)

i dont for the most part Plug websites but they have been the best hands down to deal with.

The Nex II or NexIIe both have great volume and sound
Easy to use Win XP sees it as a removable drive so all you do is drag and drop you songs.
Its USB
Long battery life with a CF card, the microdrive kills battery life.

Oh BTW the head phones that come with the player are so so, I got a better set from sony.

Trust me you will love this player.:D

I blew it and bought a Nex IIe, USB 2.0 CF reader/writer and a 256mb SimplTech CF card :eek:

I'm not saying it's a bad setup at all. But having bought a JVC MP3/CD player a few months back, I wasn't thinking.
So now I'm on the hunt for a good CD/MP3/FM player. That way I can play the same disks in everything I listen to.

From my limited review searching I found that the iRiver iMP-350 and the SONICblue RioVolt SP250 both come through with some pretty good reviews.
Any comments about these two players?

Please help an idiot get jammin' ;)

I think mpio makes great mp3 players. I currently havce the dmb plus. Comes with a fm tuner, 128 built in, with up to a max of 256 taking SM cards. You can also encode any external sound source directly into the input plug. Comes in handy sometimes. Not to mention its USB.

I have the Mpio DMG. this guy Don't midn the yellow, theres a blue one and silver one also.
Got like a 4.5/5 review at mp3.com.

I like it, drag and drop software. Blue LCD. Really tiny, and only uses 1 battery and lasts forever. I have a 64mb version, and added another 64mb SM card. Got it in Korea for ~$130 US liek 2 years ago. :D Mp3 players will still pretty new back then, and I was having a hard time choosing which one to buy since it was impossible to find reviews on these guys (not available in the US at the time). Glad to know that I picked a good one. :)

get a diamond rio800 if they still make them =P i've had mine for years. In this day n age, make sure your player uses either sm or cf. every other type of memory is just too darn expensive.
